Hi Guys
I`m thinking of buying a cheep K11 to modify as a daily driver,
I`ve been thinking of buying one for about £500 then spending another £250 or so replacing all the wear parts discs/pads/wheel bearngs etc so i`ve go a really reliable car,(if i do it myself i know its been done)
My only worry is will all the £500 cars be rusty??
I know the front crossmembers rust and behind the doors on the outer sills (neither to much of a worry)
But what about floor pans and inner sills etc??
Where else should i look for rust when viewing a suitable K11??
Cheers Adrian

Be sure to check the sills, If it has a sunroof it will vent water into the sills and rot them from the inside to the out.
It seems a common Problem with Nissans, All those i've seen up on a Ramp has been rusty.

Check under the engine bay aswell. Cross member needed welding on our old one despite the rest of the car being mint and only having 30k on the clock.

"Do Micra K11's Rot??" Is the Pope Catholic? My brother's looked pristine, but it was rotten all under the back seat where the subframe mounts.

To be honest, every car rots somewhere. The best way to know i to look for it, with a fine tooth comb.
I've had early E30 BMWs that are usually horrific for rust and yet been the most solid cars I've owned. Flip-side being later BMWs with galvanized metalwork that I've found rust on. Galvanization only stays in place until there has been a crash repair it seems!!
My old Volvo had rusty windows. Like, the glass was literally rusting, with brown weep coming from spots. Eventually worked out that someone must have been welding near it, and the splatter melted into the glass and eventually started corroding.
Anyway, down the street and second right if you want to get back to the topic...

we looked at one last week for a friend which seemingly looked immaculate, even i was impressed that the front crossmember didnt have any rust on it that i could see until i pulled away the plastic cover that goes between the bumper and said crossmember and got a facefull of crispy metal that had been overlooked...... No matter how nice it looks,go through it with a fine toothcomb, its a micra,it will have rust somewhere.

Tbh, when buying most cars of that age for less than £500, you have to expect some rust. If you don't find any when viewing the car, you'll probably find some later. The k11s don't seem any more prone to rust than a lot of other small cars of the era, just have your wits about you when viewing.
They are great little cars, I miss mine so much. I will, one day, have another in my life.

We have 2 K11's in our household now, both required a good weekend's welding on the inner/outer sills and front cross member for the last MOT, hopefully they will both get through without next year, that last foot or so of the sill is the main bugbear, might be better off looking for one without a sun roof.....

Hi
I won`t buy any car with a sunroof, They always leak or rust out,
Somebody mentioned the rear axle mounts rusting out, Can that be seen by liffting the rear seat bolster??
Cheers Adrian

My MOT tester told me that a few years back that these were the UK's most scrapped vehicle. Mainly due to sill rust I believe. Just look carefully at what you're buying and try and get one owned by an OAP.

Yeah, like the others have said, they can and do rust just about everywhere. The pre-facelift cars seem to fair a little better, considering they are older. Key points are the back third of the inner and outer sills, and front cross member - this shouldn't be an mot failure point on non-pas models, but some testers will, some won't. Get over to www.micra.org.uk for all the tech and advice you could want.
