	Hi All, i bought a car off of ebay (i know, i know.) the seller seemed genuine enough and nothing suspect about him at all. i , stupidly, drove off without the log book, all i have is the green slip (new keepers supplement), to be honest the guy met me at the train station in the car and told me he had forgotten to bring the log book with him, he made a note of my name and address and said he would sent it off to DVLA. on driving the car home, (stoke on trent back to london) i thought i heard what sounded like a wheel bearing noise, i took it to my mechanic mate who diagnosed the noise as an gearbox input shaft bearing knackered, he said that the bearing could last for years or a few days....he couldn't say for sure. so i called the bloke i bought the car off and i had a bit of a moan about the car, he apologised and said that he hadn't noticed any noise....anyway i bought the car on the 26th april and here we are on the 8th may and i still don't have a new log book in my name, so my question is, is this normal to wait this long, and can i make enquiries about the log book to DVLA myself? thanks for all and any answers Essexboy
	my wife only moans once a day but it lasts for 24 hours

	It's only been 14 days, and one of those was a bank holiday! You are also relying on the seller to remember to post it. If it doesn't show up within about a month you can apply for a book yourself on form V10 (post office/VRO). It will be free because you have the green "new keeper" slip. I'd also get a second opinion on the noise I don't know anything about whatever car this is, but input shaft (IE inside gearbox) noises are far less common than wheelbearing and CV joint ones. Could just be your mate calling a driveshaft an input shaft though (it's an output shaft...)

	That's less than 2 weeks and there's been a bank holiday as well, so it's still well within the timescales expected from DVLA - my last one earlier this year took about 3 weeks to come back and I know that one was sent off same day I picked up the car.

	As long as you have the green slip DVLA will issue you with a V5 FOC. I recently sold a Honda moped, sent off the old V5 yet new owner hasn't received a new V5 in their name. The other day I had a letter from DVLA saying somebody had applied for a V5 and gave me a week or so to object - which I course I won't as new owner is entitled to the V5. All quite normal for DVLA so don't worry as it'll be sorted out one way or another at no additional costs to yourself. Paul h

	It took about 4 weeks for my V5 to turn up, long enough that I'd totally forgotten about it and was genuinely surprised that the DVLA were writing to me. And that was after dropping it off by hand to the local DVLA office.

	Aye don't worry too much but the dvla can tell you if an application is being processed so you'll know if he sent it off or not. Either way you have the green slip which is as good as a logbook anyway.

	We bought our e36 in April and somewhere along the line the logbook got lost so we've had to pay £25 to get it put in our name. Sent from my GT-I9300 using proboards
