One down side in having to do a daytime job means that I haven’t got enough time to do all my projects, and my wife has said one has to go:D. So the one up for sale is my 1986 MK2 Golf. I bought this as a “Barn Find ish” not really from a barn but had been sat out in a driveway for the last 10 years.
It’s a 1.6CL 4+E 5 door, 1 prior owner with only 59,071 miles on the clock. The old chap I bought it from, bought it brand new in 1986 from Bristol street in Nottingham. He was insistent that he sent the V5 off so it will be now shown as a 2 keeper car.
Still needs a few little jobs doing to get on the road but in the right hands nothing more than a weekends worth of tinkering.
When I bought the golf the inner door shields had been damaged and rotted both of the inner door panels and then unfortunately let water in. The rear panels have been repalced with grey ones at the mo. On removing the carpets I was amazed to find floors in near mint condition with only one large screwdriver tip sized hole to weld up, which has now been done. All the carpets and seats have been cleaned and refitted and look really nice too.
Engine wise I have replaced the oil, hydraulic tappets, stripped and cleaned the carb and flushed through the fuel lines. Starts and runs a dream. All the engine pipes, clips and shields are where they are supposed to be.
Body wise its pretty good with a few scuffs to the front wings and some surface corrosion in a few spots on the sills. The leading edges of the rear wheel arches need cleaning up and painting but seem structurally sound. Oh and the front scuttle area is bubling but not gone through. Doors are absolutely mint.
Checking the golf over I would say that the front pipe blow needs sorting and the non flashing indicators, will need to be fixed for the MOT. I would also think the brakes might benefit from a clean too, although they all seem to work. The only other thing that isn’t working is the heater fan isn’t, but not MOT related.
I just haven’t got the time to finish this beut off, it’s a genuine unmolested example. The previous owner might be providing me with some history but he cant find it at the mo, he is an interesting guy to say the least and it seems never gets rid of any thing.
I would like this moving on to some one who can use it, so would be looking at offers in the region of £575. Car is in Hucknall Nottingham, NG15.
