As promised, here is a thread for my 1971 Honda c50 motorbike, on a Cornish registration.. it lived there for 40 years until I brought it up the road to Devon
Also in this thread will be pictures of my best friend's 1980 Honda c90zz, (blue one) which he has owned for around 5 years. It's heavily modified and I will try to answer all questions about it that I can Anyway...
In April 2011 I trawled ebay high and low for a c50, 70 or 90. Ideally, I wanted one as old as possible. I stumbled upon a 1971 in red, which was two hours down the road in Cornwall.
We drove down in Jon's (friend, 90zz owner) Hijet and went to pick it up. We were greeted by a really nice old boy in his late 60's who explained that he and his grandson had tried to restore it for the road. It had been off the road for at least 20 odd years, being used as a field bike for a little fun.
Anyway, long story short.. it was in AWFUL condition. Where it looked immaculate in the photos, it had infact been painted with Hammerite using a brush!!! Oh my god... all of the white plastic caps had been painted over in one go. All the bolts, chrome parts.. All red. It had a c70 engine fitted as the c50 spare (original engine) was blown up and in a box with other bits and bobs included in the sale. I pretty much explained how awful the bike was, and he knocked off a fair bit of money. We packed it all in the van and headed home.
This is the very first picture I have once I got it home. Looks good, huh? WRONG! Throughout the thread you will see how bad it actually is.
The seat isn't original, the side covers are supposed to be white, the c50 never had a choke under the handlebars.. it's just awful. One day I will fully restore it and have it painted back to it's original colour... GREEN!
One of our friend's had a lot left from a c90zz we used to rag around a field as kids. He brought it over so I could use bits if needed.
