I've been busy over the last few days rebuilding that "mystery carb" that turned out to be a 38 DGAS. After getting pretty wasted on petrol fumes from cleaning everything and acquiring a few new scars from wire brush attachments used with the Dremel its all looking pretty spick and span.
The rebuilt carb has all the jets listed on the build list for a 3 litre manual Consul/Granada spec 38 DGAS but doesn't have a pneumatic pump like the carb i bought for spares and the one shown in the assembly drawing supplied with the rebuild kit. What is this used for? The carb i rebuilt has the relevant ports blanked off so it never came with one in the first place.
I have circled the blanked off area in red in these pictures (taken before the clean-up). The pump would still mount to the carb body but the blanked ports would render it useless.
Also, the choke butterfly spindle is situated closer to the float chamber on the carb, not the linkage side as is shown in the rebuild diagram and on my "spares" carb. I though about swapping the bits over but the spares carb has some damage to the casing so i don't want to do that.
Whats the score with the different versions of this carb? Ford stuff is new to me and i'm only rebuilding it for fun and so I can demo the rover V8 (I'm removing from the Triumph) running before I sell it and then i'll just Ebay the rebuilt carb.
Also the auto choke was manky so i would like to convert to manual choke but the conversion kit is £50. any ideas?
