As you may or may not have seen today, it appears that Unity Media have made the decision to close the above magazines. From what I've gathered, Retro Ford has been taken under the wing of Practical Perfomance Car Magazine today, but I can't find anything definitive about the other two.
Obviously, the niche and/or the sales will probably be the reasons, but I really hope both survive as we need this sort of thing (IMO) in print.
Can anyone connected shed some light on the subject?

i heard that the deal with Blockhead Media included retro cars and performance ford, but they are just rumours at the moment, nothing set in stone, if it is the case i can't really see Blockhead doing Practical Classics and Retro Cars as they are both very similar mags, but who know, hopefully someone involved will pop up somewhere and say whats actually going on

Full details will be in the public domain as soon as they're sorted out, I'm sure. In the meantime, try to save yourselves the guesswork and just wait and see.

Oh but drama is fun.
I think, as I understand it all three mags are safe at the moment, but at least one is going to a fairly large publisher and is kind of their first niche single marque title, which is an interesting move for the publisher.
I'm also under the impression another couple of mags may be swapping hands.

This... Full details will be in the public domain as soon as they're sorted out, I'm sure. In the meantime, try to save yourselves the guesswork and just wait and see. It's all still very up in the air at the moment, so internet speculation should be kept to a minimum. I don't mean any offence by that, but even I don't know all the facts, and I was one of the first people outside the company to find out. There are various wheels (excuse the pun) in various states of motion, and when/if they come to any kind of fruition, someone will let us know. At the end of the day, three mags have gone which - as ex-staff on two of them - is heartbreaking. But the main factor is that a number of people are out of work with immediate effect. Personally I'm still in shock over the affair. I had some amazing times, met some amazing people and developed some strong and life-long friendships while working there. I also made a LOT OF TEA, I was forced to dance into many hugs and I slept in a Mondeo more times than I care to mention. It's a great shame, and I for one will miss the mags greatly. Chris

You can't say this It's all still very up in the air at the moment, so internet speculation should be kept to a minimum. Then say this... It's a great shame, and I for one will miss the mags greatly. Particularly as current info points to magazines being sold not shut whole sale.

I do feel discussion is important, to let potential buyers/investors know that there is a demand for them. I buy Retro Cars every month, have done since day one of issue one of the first incarnation, and was a subscriber until this year (bills came before Subs, so I get it in Asda every month).
Its always got the kind of features I want to read, about the kind of cars I like. Same with RF which I bought when it had a tasty Cortina in. PF wasn't on my radar until I owned a Focus, but the quality of all three mags was (is) clear to see.

Particularly as current info points to magazines being sold not shut whole sale. To say I'll miss them isn't a defining statement. At the moment nobody knows what the hell is going on. But, just to clarify, I'll miss them as they are now. I'm afraid I can't really do or say any more than that, as it's not my place to expand on the finite details of what's going on. I'm not a cog in this particular machine. Apologies for the confusion. Chris

As I understand it, Retro Cars has been sold to Kelsey Publishing, Performance Ford has been sold to Bauer Media and Retro Ford to the PPC publishers Blockhead Media.

Sad news, and of course worthy of discussion on here. This reminds me of the death of record shops (bear with me). Good motoring mags have been a fixture in my life ever since I started reading my dads as a kid. They're part of the passion and culture surrounding a hobby. Unfortunately like physical recordings of music, technology presents diversity and competition and sales decline. I still subscribe to 2 mags, but no longer buy any others, I feel that there is enough quality online to keep me entertained. I stopped buying rc for this reason about 18 months ago. A bit ashamed to admit that with music, spotify changed my habits too, and that's from someone whose career was in record stores and labels for years, as well as owning more than 2000 LP's. But changing public demand caused me redundancy more than twice so I do sympathise. Sad to see these things go but it's kind of inevitable that certain businesses cease to remain profitable. I suspect, there were just too few people buying the mags, but the question why is still an interesting one....

it would be a great shame if these mags did dissapear altogether, although i think in these hard economic times there is a sort of inevitability to it.i feel sorry to say that i,and many more like me,are having to tighten their belts quite substantially and have not renewed their subscriptions this year prefering to buy mags as and when they have cash in their pocket.i used to regularly subscribe to nine magazines a month,i then reduced that to three last year and none this year.publishers rely on subscriptions to assess predicted sales, and times are hard for most of us to put money into our hobby.
