Not strictly retro but worth mentioning if you plan on a UK holiday this year. I'm reading a book based in the Isle of Man and it's tempting me for a visit. Looking today I see that there is no speed limit - www.iomguide.com/drivingontheisleofman.phpSo no need to go to Germany to wind up your retro to ramming speed ;D Paul H

It is true that the national speed limit sign is an open 'safe' limit, but through towns and villages and on many roads there are 30/40/50 limits.
There are no motorways so winding up any super car means flying along the mountain road, not bad for supebikes, frustrating for super cars!
For the TT fortnight, the mountain road is one way, so effectively you can ride as fast as you like (safely) and use all the road.
Some good experiences of overtaking police vehicles at 3 figure speeds!
Oh and getting caught speeding doesn't endorse your uk licence, but bare in mind the Manx police usually apply the £10 for everyone mph over the limit rule.
Another thing to consider too is that the Steam Packet ferry company have the monopoly on ferry travel to iom, and so it would probably be cheaper to go to Germany!

Around here most of the roads are 50 mph limit so being able to flick a vehicle around the twists and turns of the TT circuit without having to worry that there is a Police officer around every corner is tempting. It's not always about max speed for me but handling.

Don't forget, just because the Police can't do you for speeding they can do you for dangerous driving or driving without due care and attention.

I'de be more worried about the stone walls to be honest It think there is some competition to the Steam Packet ferry as a few years ago now Izax of Newton had bought a boat for taking bikes across during the TT.

Paul h Ought to come to Walsall speed cameras, police on every corner and speed humps every 50 bloody yards nigh on everywhere no place for slammers

I got stopped for speeding on the IoM a couple of years back during TT week! 35 in a 30!! Let off with warning.
During TT week when there is no practice or racing the mountain section is one way only. It is unbelievable the speed that not only cars but bikes are doing over that section.
Have a link to a clip of the bikes coming down to Creg-ny-baa on the first night of practice. We were literally lying in the grass banks about 1.5m from the bikes / sidecars with them braking from over 160mph!

I am off to the TT in a few weeks for the 4th year in a row. Not sure how it works with points, but if you get a ban for dangerous driving or riding, it applies to the UK too.
I have never been aware of any other company docking at the isle of man other than the steam packet company. The ferries are booked up to a year in advance for TT week. I booked 12 months in advance and the sailings I wanted were all full, so I am still going just not the exact dates I wanted.
As someone else said, there are no speed limits on certain roads, but they will do you for dangerous riding. Some of the open speed limit roads need to be changed. There is one section going from Douglas to Laxey, and its no speed limit, its got tight bends, and goes over the electric railway track, in that area its just not safe to be riding flat out.
Out on the mountain, its like nothing else I have ever experienced. Especially when its one way only traffic, using both sides of the road is something that takes some getting used to, your brain wants to stay left, especially if you take a tight left bend on the right side of the road. The problem during TT week, its that every few hours there is a bad crash on the mountain and the road gets closed, often for most of the day. There were quite a few people killed on bikes during the 2012 races, cant remember exactly, might have been 6 members of the public killed in bike crashes RIP
