Sam [ bmwv8capri.yolasite.com/ ] hi mate just sent you a pm cheers mate i had to wrestle them welds out of that welder 2bh but i've got a brand new welder so its nice and crisp now and erm i'd say about a whole sheet of steel should do it but i can get as much sheet be it 1 or 2 mm as i like from my work and use the folders and other tools as and when i'm guna need some 20x20x3 box for remaking the front end or some cds tube or whatever and i wanna make a basic roll cage to tie everything in inside the car and continue it under the bonnet to tie in the strut tops. i was titting about repairing the inner wings and front cross member rad support but i might chop all that out at a later date who knows i was planning a smooth engine bay also but the v8 is guna fill it right up so i doubt much smoothness would be on show. anyway great to bump into mate

That is some awful rust and past bodges you're got yo deal with there, but some really nice repair work you're getting in - hope your shoulder is mended now! yeah there's plates on plates and expanding foam repairs bridging gaps for the filler to sit on been hospital 5 times since i mentioned it 2 scans several dye injections (dam painful) and one curse word "specialist" and another okish guy with guest visit from previous curse word and now wait for keyhole surgery "next year" Posted by sidewaysboNov 3, 2013 at 9:07pm hope ya bit better now fellar you have done great on the welding front but when the old motors are up and running and finished then you will get your reward for all the curse word we all experience with these old classics along the way ,will be watching your progress matt cheers bo i'm still feeling like curse word but just plodding on collecting bits and sheet metal tools and random bits here and there got a air nibbler and a spot blaster for blowing some rust away. anyway instead of working on the capri i've been building a garage over and around the capri so i can work through the rain and snow this winter (all building has been done with one arm lol or help from my brother/mates) i've also been breaking a golf on my drive way its all stripped now just needs scrapping and i've been parts collecting/getting metal together for a car spit rotisserie which is made up of 50x50 angle for the bumper brackets and two different sized bits of pipe so one size that fits inside the other thus spinning on axis and 2 laser cut circles with a series of holes around the edges for locking points and the rest is made up of 80mm box which is left over from the garage/barn i'm building so soon i'll pull my finger out and do the following scrap the broke car finish the barn/garage and stick the roofing sheets on top build the car spit and make a detail step by step guide from it so others can try n build one as in exact sizes and stuff but yeah with my shoulder i cant be lying around on the floor as thats the worst as it feels like it wants to pop out kinda so the spit will save the day and i'm making it heavy duty so i can climb on top of it and weld the floor with ease and... i'm also building a new engine hoist with a hydraulic ram i got on ebay the other day for lifting in the V8 into place so i can solid mount the engine/make mounts and then mock up the exhaust manifolds and such. basically i'm trying to do 5 things (or more) at once Posted by austinmorris1300yesterday at 7:05pm hi mate different car same old sh...t i know how it feels ! good luck good project ! cheers mate i'm basically guna completely rebuild this car shell wise and running gear and engine and gearbox and interior Posted by darrylwebbyesterday at 7:48pm I totally missed the updates. Should be awesome when finished though. yeah i've done the engine bay so far and both inner wings then remove one wing and then chopped off the front panel and then rebuilt the headlight bowls and cut out the inner sill and drivers floor and repair the chassis rails in a few places and cut off the engine mounts (pinto) and the steering rack as i wanna replace that with a beamer one maybe e36 rack. theres still passenger side inner sill and front floor section both outer sills around the rear window theres a hole and the tailgate hinges and both rear bumper mount areas and rear drivers arch and front arch bonnet edge and front panel all of which id rather replace with fibreglass panels to be honest so a pair of wings bonnet tailgate front panel. oh and both drip rails are shagged so guna redo them so wings can bolt on and off.

oh and one more thing i'm going air ride XD my mums planning a trip to America over christmas so guna get her to try n bring back some rear bags and fittings and a compressor in her luggage lol might work might not

i just got some banded steels for £50 with tyres i'm in shock 7's and 8's (they measure 9" across tho) anyway wheels can be ticked off the list i might get the 7"s turned into 9's at some point and then run them on the back end

cheers mate i'd say i've scratched the surface so far... done about 20% of the welding so far. currently focusing on my garage/barn build i put some more beams up into the roof today only 2 more short lengths to put up and i can start fixing the roofing sheets in place that and i need some fixings/screws with rubber washers or something that wont leak. here are some pictures of the wheels i got the other day i think there 6ish or 7j and 8 maybe 9j so as far as banded steels go the 6j (or so) ones are only slightly bigger than some normal steels so yeah 1/2 banded steels lol plans are run the 8j (light grey) wheels on the front and send the smaller 6j's wheels to be banded to 9j or 10j and then run on the year. now i like the gun metal grey but hate the light grey (other wheel had already gone upstairs when i took the pictures) so i'm contemplating respraying them all gloss gun metal grey or vw black magic pearl (diamond black) all round also if anyone knows of a good place to get wheels banded let me know some names/place/members on here. i already know banded steels.com or some guy via ebay and i'm torn between banding the smaller ones 9j or 10j atm i figure bigger is better due to the power i wanna put down but alot of tyre stretch will be needed > also just remembered there 195/45/15 all round so in my eyes no stretch on the little fronts and next to none on the wider ones (some may disagree) thus me coming to the conclusion to run the 8j on the front and much much wider ones on the rear. thanks mattt

here is my garage finished it the day before my op i then cleaned up all round and threw some curse word out and stacked up some wheels and tyres but.... my op was more than i had bargained for and my arms in a sling for 5 weeks so no driving no capri fixing no nothing. but i am ordering bits for my air ride stuff so once i'm better i can play with that and fit the v8 and get back to restoring the body work also then refitted the front suspension and wheels and rolled the capri right back towards the fence so loads of room for getting the engine

Those wheels will be pretty nice on the Capri aswell, Especially when they are nice and wide! cheers mate most of the pain is gone now and getting my stitches out this week. yeah guna band the 8j to 9j and 6j to 10j thats the plan anyway. been looking at rear axle options as my car is going to be drag/pro street focused i'm planning a ford 9" etc and was thinking 4 link and pan rod or watts linkage but i'm now guna go for triangulated 4 link to go with the air ride on the rear. so i'll sell my perfectly good 52" atlas axle at some point and my single leaf springs. ordering my air ride stuff this week

8-)Rear axle! Easy If your happy with a ford 8.8 inch axle you want to get a 4.0 v6 ford explorer rear axle which has an off set diff. Get the axle complete and it will have disk brakes on the ends as well The width is too wide BUT, as the diff is offset there is a long and a short side. What you do is you get another drive shaft for the short side, cut the 3 inches or what ever it is out the long side and fit the short drive shaft so you then have a central diff and a face to face distance that is about 1 to 0.5 inches wider than the standard capri axle. yeah man explorer is what i had in mind and i was driving behind one earlier when i got a taxi ride to a mates which was weird i'd rather get a bomb proof axle and get a prop made for that and not waste one blowing the atlas/spend loads of time and money on it and just start out with a narrowed explorer/ranger etc and weld my tri angle 4 link to that. and yeah theres alot of spares and upgrades out there are you keeping the leaf springs on yours? i can't wait to get to work again on my capri

finally a update my mum brought back all my goodies and got straight through customs and just had to pay the excess baggage charge (50£) i've managed to de shed my capri (removed loads of boxes n random parts from the interior lol) ordered a bunch of tools and brought everything for my air ride setup bar valves and a air tank (as i'm guna make one at work) so far got 2x slam series rear bags 2x dual needle gauges 1x vair 444c air comp (and loads of fittings and air line) and through a ebay miracle (major title mistake not saying what they actual are thus making them hard to search for) and me knowing what they were instantly and a swift click on the buy it now i got 4x more air bags if i was to order them right now including delivery they'd be roughly 450/500£ and i got them for 130$ delivered (thats 83£ in real money) and then i just gota find a cheap way of getting them home from my sisters in america but thats 2014 matt's problem. so yeah 6 air bags i didn't need the other 2 really but i can fit them on my other car so it'll have air on the front for getting other speed bumps i honestly thought this xmas would be s**t but its turned out awesome here's the pics 2x slam series rear bags 6" dia (for the rear of the capri) 1x viar 444c air compressor (its massive) it also comes with air filters and all fittings and check valve and free pressure switch next to fag packet 2x dual needle 200psi gauges (they sent me 3 of them so i have a spare/will use it on my golf) 2x viar inflation valves for mock up before i get my valves/testing/temporary airing up i've had these for a few weeks but yeah bunch of air line 8mm od and 8mm push fit connectors/elbows/t joints just need to order some valves (going for 8 single valves) some switches/switch box and to make a air tank/adapt a tank/buy a tank if i get lazy. and here are the pics from the ebay bargain i mentioned there was no mention of what they were or any clues to what they were in the ebay listings title or description but luckily i knew what i was looking at so i clicked on it in a flash. they a set of 4 "aero sport" universal air bags aka uaas bags aka bag over strut bags these replace your coil spring or coilover spring and slip over your damper (you need mount plates making and or some fab work to make them work but thats nothing i cant handle) mother f*****g awesome if you zoom in you can see on the bags it says aero sport and uaas and universal air in a few places cant wait to get this lot fitted now
