Hi All
Basically i want to clarify the Engine Mount layout on my Golf.
Can anyone confirm the following is true?
- There are 3 Engine Mounts - one at the front, one somewhere at the back, one near the gearbox (vague i know!)
- The gearbox mount is a fluid filled unit, the rest are normal rubber items
I'm getting excessive vibration when driving my Tdi, and i suspect the fluid filled mount is shot (probably the original unit)
Does this sound about right?
Sorry for the novice question.
Joe

That sounds right in terms of where they are.
Before going any further it's worth checking the front mount, on acceleration it's pulled in tension, and can split, but look fine once the weights back on it. It's easy to get at and should be quick to check, if that's in tact then yeah, it sounds like the fluid one might be knackered.
My Passat (b3, so the same mount set-up) had split it's front mount, and it vibrated terribly on idle, and had a lot of unwanted cabin noise on the motorway. New mounts fixed it, and when removing the old ones the rear 2 looked fine and the front one fell in half! Admittedly the rear hydraulic one could have been knackered, but it's worth checking your front one before anything anyway, as it's the cheapest and easiest to replace.

Thanks Robin,
That would make sense actually, i will have a look at the front one.
"Vibration" isn't the best way i could have described it, the engine is fairly quiet when driving, but my foot gets tingly every now and then on the motorway, leading me to believe the insulating factors of the argon filled mount are shot.
Ill just have a look to replacing them all over time, but will start with the front one!!
Thanks again
Joe
