Just watching 1 of those police fly on the wall programs, and they pulled this guy over for having a german style number plate on his car.....fair enough...the guy had forgotten to remove it as he had been to a show They then went round his car trying to find anything to get him on...asking how his steering felt as the car was lowered....he pointed out it had been done with a professional kit and was perfectly legal.....checking his tyres and everything.......basicly at the end they had to let him go as there was nothing they could do but issue him a warning regarding his plates Looking at some of the modifications on the readers rides section...have any of you guys had probs with Plod???

When i first moved here i used to have a lot of plod attention. As a gas converter I'm always out and about in different motors, and they spotted it was the same bloke driving about. One of them got arsey about the laptop on the seat next to me. I told him it was there to record data so i coukd reveiew it once i had stopped driving and make adjustments accordingly. Then one of the local plod contacted me for a gas conversion on his jeep. Funilly enough since he has had his converted ive had a couple more. So they all know me now, and just completely ignore me. Other than for servicing. Afterall if they mess me about, who is going to service their cars or get the gas system back on the road if it goes wrong ?

Never had a problem had a range rover with straight through pipes which sounded like a Lancaster bomber taking off never bothered them, Guess if they are on camera, they have to do everything by the book and double so

Got pulled a few times in the mini I had usually for doing more than the speed limit on the motorway and usually an old boy more concerned with what was under the bonnet! Had a twin upswept DTM pipe on it, straight through so noisy, very noisy and that got a few tellings off. I've found that if you don't attract attention to yourself by driving like a nob and such like then try seem to leave you alone.

I know this isn't directly linked to modifications that the OP asked about, but I read this on Friday and it did make me think about just how my driving might be perceived...

I've been pulled a few times, luckily never been in any serious trouble. Actually got an ASBO once as my RX7 was too loud (single turbo, titanium exhaust, external wastegate screamer pipe) which was a fair cop but the car was legal so not a lot they could do.

The police stop vehicles for many reasons. Without stopping a vehicle you do not know the intentions of the driver , whether it is stolen or whether there are offences being committed. A lot depends on the attitude of the driver if he's just been pulled for a routine check then there's no need for any aggravation but without pulling that person over you can't establish for example whether they are insured, drunk or stoned. No one is perfect but there does seem to be a lot of bobby bashing going on at the moment in the press and other car forums like fiesta turbo.

I used to get pull a lot in the Corsa and asked all sort of questions about my car and then they start on to me about the wheelchair sticker on the passage door boot and windscreen mostly when I was on my own cause when my wife is a car I get pulled they start and I just say "There is a wheelchair in the boot I need the sticker to let people who don't care about how hard it is for someone to transfer from a wheelchair to a car know not to block the car" at that they walk off
In the camper its a hole different story 90% of the time I get pulled cause the law thinks I have stolen something or I'm about to steal something all cause my camper is a Ford Transit once they were full sure I had stolen something they took me down to the police station and then let me go

I drive a zafira at the moment.....but plans are afoot for a retro something or other....and due to me having 3 points for being naughty at 1 time....I drive like a granddad as I don't want to pick up anymore.......but iv had hassles with plod in the past...3 times in 1 week for the same thing....and all 3 times they did a long walkround trying to find something wrong....the best bit is when they say..."well we best let you on your way" and last time I replied...."well that's very good of you for wasting my time in the 1st place" I still think a lot of plod see drivers as easy prey

As far as I'm concerned, you need to be doing something to get pulled most of the time and in that case all you can do is hold your hands up and admit you were doing wrong. People who complain about being pulled for having the wrong plates on do my head in, you know you're in the wrong so just take it. That's coming from someone that's been fined for illegal plates in the past, I knew they were dodgy and I knew the risk in running them, it's all par for the course.
However, I did see something that annoyed me the other night. I was in the Supermarket and as I was walking back to my car a pair of Traffic Officers in a Volvo went past and as they were leaving they stopped and reversed back. What had caught their eye was a Mk4 Astra which happened to be lowered (not slammed) over a set of bright orange AMG style wheels. Now, no one was sat in the car so it wasn't a case of loitering or anything like that, it was just parked up whilst someone did their shopping. An officer got out, checked all around the car, tyres etc and when he realised nothing was wrong went off on his way.
Now, would he have done that if the car didn't stand out. Afterall, the carpark was fairly busy and there was a large variety of different cars in there. The car, from where I was stood looked to be immaculate and was obviously someone's pride and joy, so no excuse about it not looking roadworthy or anything like that, it was simply the fact that the bright colour of the wheels made it stand out from the rest. Now, I don't know about you, but I would say that is a case of victimisation simply because someone has personalised their car to stand out from the rest. It is in situations like that where I think the Police get a bad name within the modified community.

ive been pulled over loads and loads of times (in the 20's id think) most of them came driving a e36 coupe at 21. ive always found if your alright with copper, they're alright back with you. if you drive legaly, and your in a car that legal, they can pull you over as much as they want and they cant do you for anything.
these days at nealy 27 driving a hyundai stellar, ive only been pulled once ( at 2am on my way back home after changing a cortina engine) and that was because the copper was more curious as to what car it actualy was!
behave yourself youl get ignored, be a dick and youl get the attention your after.

Maybe the officer has a MK4 Astra of his own, thought that one looked awesome and fancies doing the same mods to his Only times i've been pulled in the last 15 years is twice for not wearing a seat belt, my fault, last time was last year, was driving a MK3 Polo Saloon, unmarked Beemer, chatty officer loved the car, great condition, used to have one himself, says he had no choice in doing me as it was blitz week for seatbelts and speeding, fair play, wear my belt now though (mostly ) as i don't fancy throwing £60 away again. In 26 years driving i've never been pulled for a "check", despite in most of that time driving some eyecatching, unusuall cars, i know some are just unlucky but as mentioned behaviour and attitude has a lot to do with it.

I echo most of the above If i'm honest. I've been stopped countless times, once was for speeding and I held my hands up and excepted it he actually wrote "very pleasant, polite motorist" or something on the form For the most part I get stopped "just for being up late" as I used to work random hours and then go out most of the night. Unfortunately as I drive an old ford and spend a great deal of time in the countryside it's quite often dirty so apparently that makes it look out of place, which is fair I guess. That said I have been stopped by awkward officers, one occasion was for "speeding" as I pulled out of my driveway which confused me, as my driveway isn't that big and it's gravel so I wouldn't get much speed, that said cant I do what ever speed I like on my drive? And the most recent irritating point was being stopped for "failing to display road tax" the police car that stopped me came from the opposite direction in the left hand lane, and I was in the left hand lane on the other side of the road at 40mph at night. The point I made to him but it was dismissed because he has good eyesight!? :/ strange.

Been pulled loads before i hit 20. After that nothing realy.. Although driving the carlton the other day, The bike cop in front of me was soooo busy watching me he nearly went up the grass verge and did a full on wiggle. And when i turned off he braked and wiggled again... Think of the damage he could have done to someone else/ himself... idiot... I think its probably because of my age and type of car that i get looks while driving it.. But as of yet, havnt been pulled... I also drive within the law and pretty slowly. Mainly because its my only roadlegal car and i realy like it... don't want to kill the wife , me.... or it while doing something stupid..

Ive been lucky in that ive never been pulled over. But I must say when I bought the E36 323 I expected to be pulled over every 5 mins being only 23 in a fairly high powered car. Also whenever I see a police car I always find myself suddenly thinking I must be doing something wrong and going really tense even though I know I'm not, Id expect them to notice that and pull me over thinking ive got something to hide, but so far I have not been.
The only experience I have had with the local police is stopping and giving a statement as a witness to an RTA, oh and stopping and helping a rather irate looking officer push his car out of the ditch that someone had just forced him down causing him to get stuck.
