Need some pointers here guys! Have acquired a mk2 golf driver which has been fitted with aftermarket keyless start thing! It has an isolator switch also fitted. When running, and yiou switch on indicators, it also puts on the same side rear light! (doesnt flash, stays on, but indicators work fine) Doesnt happen if you put hazards on. Also, if you switch on sidelights, it appears to bypass isolator switch, i.e. car can be started without switchin on isolator! Any ideas where to start, as I am awful at car electrics........

Sounds like you're in for a bit of fun! I suggest you start by removing the bolIocks of a remote start and isolator switch that's been fitted - Get the dash in bits and dig it all out, follow the wires from the remote start to the cat loom and cut them one at a time, checking the car still starts each time, and familiarise yourself with what each wire is connected to. I'd guess it'll be connected to: Ignition live (Black), Battery 12v (red), Starter motor (Black/Red) Indicators (Black/green+Black/white) By the sounds of it this smart guy has also connected it to the rear parking lights too, which are grey/red and grey/black wires. Here's a link to the wiring info for a late mk2 golf (post about 1989) www.a2resource.com/electrical/CE2.htmlThe wire colours are correct for an earlier car though. VWs do have a feature where if you leave the indicator on when the ignition is off, the sidelights on that side of the vehicle are illuminated - it seems like your man has got himself tangled in that with regards finding an ignition feed or something. I wouldn't personally want to even try and fix it, just rip the lot out bit by bit and marvel at the satisfying pile of headaches you'll have removed from the car.

My Scirocco did the thing with the sidelights. Just giggling the wiring plugs on the back of the stalks sorted it out, so that might actually be a lot simpler than it sounds.
It sounds like the isolator switch is wired in completely wrong. Is it the motorsport type with the big red key thing? They're meant to kill ALL power (other than plumbed in extinguishers if electric!) to reduce the chance of a fire in a crash, or the chance of someone who's helping get you out of the car getting a shock. It sounds like he's wired it so it only cuts the switched live, rather than the permenant one. So when the sidelights are put on, because they're powered by a permanent live, it back-feeds the switched live circuit with power. Best bet's to do as cobblers says, and track back any wiring they've added to see where it's been added, and if they've cut anything, then remove it, and start again if you even want to put it back in.
