Long version: Here's an example of measure twice, cut once.
I have 3 Bedford CFs, and the main one (a transporter) was suffering valve seat recession. So I took the head off one of the others (neither is roadworthy) and took it in to a local engine guy who cleaned it and fitted hardened valve seats. I came to do the head swap at the weekend, and was very puzzled that the recon head wouldn't sit straight on the old block. A quick measure showed that the locating dowels were a few mil out, and some of the water/steam holes were a few mil out too. WTF? So I measured the old engine that the head came off and f**k my tall hat if it isn't a 2.0. It says on the log book that it's a 2.3; the guy who sold it to me said it was a 2.3, the block has a big 'L' cast into the side which, according to the Haynes manual, means it's either a '2.0 or a 2.3' - thanks, Haynes. So, anyway, this lovely recon head is ready to drop onto your 2.0. I don't know where you'd stand with a 1600 or 1800, but I do know it WON'T fit a 2.3.
