Model: N12 Cherry 1.3GS Spirit
Year: 1986 (D)
Mileage: 42343
Tax: No
MOT: Couple of months, will confirm later
Price: £400 (can't go any lower)
Some of you might have noticed this lurking on the Datsun stand at RRG12, here's a pic courtesy of UncleSilvia:
So, one gleaming black slice of 80's J-tin economy up for grabs. Less than 45k on the clock, runs like an absolute honey. Starts on the 2nd turn, regardless of weather or temperature. All original, completely stock, un-modded and virtually rot-free. Still has the factory underseal. Considering how quickly N12s usually dissolve, this really is incredibly well-preserved. The only reason I'm selling is that I need a diesel estate for work, and can't afford to run a second car
It would make a perfect base for a Cherry Turbo replica, and I believe the CA18ET can be dropped in without too much hassle - check over on zxoc for more info & inspiration
If you want to mod it but keep it cheap to run, then Mk1 Golf coilovers will go straight on the front, as will Mk2s with some slight alteration. Plus you'll have all the magical 4x114 wheel options to choose from ;D
On a practical side, it's got 5 seatbelts, split rear seats, and more storage compartments than an airliner.
I changed the oil & filter about 1,000 miles back; I was going to change the plugs & leads, but they still look like new. It's had a new alternator at some point, along with 2 repair patches at the back of the sills - they're totally solid, but could do with some flap-wheel & hi-build primer action to really finish them off.
Let's get the bad stuff out of the way:
* There's rust on the front valance, and a small spot on the front arch (shown in pics).
* It'll need new tyres soon - fronts are getting low on tread, and rears have very slight cracking.
* The n/s rear wheel has a bit of a judder at around 65mph - I rarely go over 60 so it's never been a problem.
* Bonnet has serious sun damage - SRP won't touch it, but I've not tried any proper cutting compound or mop action yet.
* The windscreen is very scratched - the original broke and was replaced with a used one - polishing might help with some of it.
* Tailgate struts no longer work - apparently K10 Micra struts should fit, but the ones I tried didn't.
* The original radio & (separate) tape player don't seem to work, but I didn't have the heart to start hacking the fascia apart to fit a modern one.
And here's some distinctly amateur pics:
Rusty valance (it's the same on the other side):
And the only other obvious bit of rust, at the back of the n/s/f arch:
Under the bonnet:
And the dash:
I'm on Anglesey, however I'll be travelling to Hertfordshire in the near future, so might be able to make a detour on the return trip to assist a buyer with transport.
