Apologies but this question relates to my modern - but I figured someone here would know.
If I book my car in for an MOT a week before it runs out (runs out on 03/05), and it fails, will the MOT still be valid until 03/05? Or will it instantly be a fail?
I'm asking because I don't know whether it will pass, and whether it will be easier to put it in for a test here at uni, or at home 150~ miles away (where any work required will have to be done).
So I guess what I'm asking is if it fails, am I still legally allowed to drive it home to get work done if it needs any?
Thanks in advance.

As far as I am aware, it is still valid. I have done just this, and at no point did the MoT guy say it was a problem to continue driving it, even when I said I'd bring it back in a week for the re-test.

Strangely, your current MOT will still be valid despite the fact it's just (theoretically) failed an inspection

depends what it fails on, if its declared as being dangerous that's a different matter.

Your current mot still stands till expiry, but as said thats doesnt stop it from being illegal if something is defective or dangerous, but thats the same for for any time period after its tested.

From what I understand the new one replaces the old one, as you can take your car a month early and gain a 13 month MOT the same applies if it fails.
Its now on the new sheet, so its failed and that replaces the old one that is now an expired document as it has been superseded by a newer document.
I would like to have this clarified by an actual MOT tester thou as I gather its a new thing that has been brought in.
