Anybody watch 'Beetle Crisis' or 'Camper Van Crisis' on Discovery chanel? Seems to be on most nights. For thoes that don't know its two amateur restorers having a go at restoring their respective Beetles and Camper Van with a few mods along the way. Good programs, show quite a lot on how some of the mechanical stuff is done which is nice. Not hugely keen on the Beetles end result tho ;D Watching it makes me come over all funny and want to do something stupid like totaly restoring a car

Yep there is a feature on Larry's car. Halfway through it that pan the background and you get a split second glance at me! Oh the fame! ;D

I've seen the camper series before, and I've caught a few of the Beetle series. The Bug is a bit unfashionable, but I quite like it for that - there's plenty of cars like that at local club meets around the country. Both shows seem (to me at least) to be a good representation of the VW scene...especially with the combination of DIY/professional work.
I'm waiting for TypeIII crisis! ;D

Maybe they should do 'Imp Crisis' I don't know if that would be restoring an Imp or owning it ;D

The bug is not to my taste but the style of it suits a later bug IMHO.

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

German look FTW.... Volksworld tried their bestest to try and bring a bit of that to the UK and it kind of bombed, they were featuring one every month for a while. I love it, really suits a later bug. It's also daft cheap if you forego the big engine mods.... you need some modern wheels (even Halfords style look good!), remove a lot of the chrome and weld up the holes, lowered which is easy on a bug, drilled door handles and stripped interior. Only big cost is a simple one-outlet straight-pipe exhaust. Starting point is a 1303 Beetle too which are twelvety times cheaper than a 'regular' beetle. It's only when you put a whacking great engine in the back that it gets pricey but nothing looks better than porsche cooling
