I've got no photos yet and the details are a bit sketchy, but I'll update as soon as I can.
Basically, this is my brother-in-law's car which has just failed the MOT on a couple of points and as he's currently looking for work, couldn't afford to fix or replace the car, so I said he could have a Clio I'd picked up which is taxed and has a long MOT and I'd take the Astra in PX as £100 and he could pay me the balance when he was back at work.
Anyway, the car is a red Astra, R-Reg. Will have to check if its 97 or 98. It's a 1.6i 8v I think.
Mileage is around 130k
He's owned the car for approx 4 years and in that time it's never broken down or failed to start.
Always flown through the MOT up until this year.
It's failed on Handbrake efficiency, which is just adjustment. Think it's 4% short of the pass mark.
Front brake imbalance (33% - not sure how far off that is, think 50% might be the pass mark?)
And emissions on the 2nd test if that makes a difference? Only time I've ever had a car fail on emissions was my old E39 523i Touring and that was cured with a new cheapy cat. I've seen new cheap cats for this Astra on eBay for £73.
And that's it.
Engine is slightly "tappy", but its been like that ever since he's owned it and as said it has been 100% reliable.
Last week I fitted brand new wishbones and Track rod ends as they were the only advisory from last years MOT. I also fitted a new pair of droplinks as one looked ropey when I changed the wishbones.
Structurally, the underside looked excellent when I had it up on my ramp. Don't remember seeing any welding, the rear suspension areas etc which are prone to rust on these Astras are solid as a rock. Only rust under there was a very small amount on the very back end of the passengers side sill.
Exterior is average. A little rust, nothing major, bit of a scuff on the rear bumper and the red paint is faded in places. With a bit of a MOP it wouldn't be too bad at all really.
Interior cleans up well. From memory the gear gaiter is rather worn and there's no stereo. Rest seats are fine, rest is fine and I think everything works.
Offering it at less than scrap value as I'd rather see the car returned to the road as it wouldn't take much at all, plus I was shocked how solid it was after seeing the underside. Or if it is broken for spares I'd rather see that done properly with the new parts I've just fitted and the original alloys being worth something to someone more than scrap. With 17 other cars and home improvement projects underway I just don't have the time.
Car drives fine, only negative point that it could do with tracking after I changed those parts. Was going to be done after the MOT had it passed.
I can deliver at a reasonable cost.
£100 no offers.
