so i bought a donor AE92 Crollla which was rotten and already sorn, transfered it into my name and got a new red V5
however i removed everything and put the vehicle into pieces and trailered it to the scrap yard piece by piece as i had no access to my works truck at the time and I'm sure the boss woudlnt like it being dead sitting around. this was all done before the new V5 came in the post....
and all i was given from the yard was a recipt for the weight and nothing else, so whats my best approach? as i hear you need a proof of vehicle destruction.
don't shoot me down but i have however sat on this for about 5 months and have decided its about time i sorted it.
thanks for any help

Fill in the bit on the V5 that says you've scrapped it, send it off. I believe (things may have changed) that you only need proof of destruction if you're a trader.....?
Be prepared for the DVLA to still write to you every 12 months asking you to sorn the 'scrapped' car though, they do to me, despite me writing back politely every time telling them it's already gone to the car park in the sky....

personally I would write them a letter explaining the situation including the date that it was disposed of and the name of the company you took it to. we had a problem with my gran's old car that the logbook obviously got lost so they sent her a warning that there was no tax. we just sent a letter to them explaining that she had sold it and gave the date it was sold.

fill in the yellow bit with some made up details on and send it off. Will be in the trade then an out of your name and not your problem.

Last time I scrapped a car I ended up sending the V5 back as exported.

I scrapped a Mini a year ago, I called the dvla/c and on their instruction sent them the V5 with a letter explaining that it was cut up and scrapped, they sent me a letter confirming that it was no longer registered to me and listed as scrapped. I've heard nothing since.

Rather than being deceitful, just declare it as scrapped and that's the end of it for all concerned. Why try and make out you sold it to a dealer? Why the need to pretend it's been exported?
I sent two loig books back yesterday with a letter saying they were scrapped. I expect the outcome will be the same as the last car I did that with: a letter from DVLA in return stating I am no longer the registered keeper and that the records have been updated accordingly.
Simple, honest and only the cost of a stamp.
