Are there any towing/License laws when using these? Do you need your B+E, not allowed on the motorway etc? Got my eye on a few mowtahs that I've searched for for donkeys, all sodding miles away, and I haven't yet got around to doing my trailer test so can't hire a trailer. And recovery fees would total a small fortune, and what I'm looking at paying for the cars themselves I need to reign in the money somewhere. I can borrow my mates recovery truck, but the idea of driving hundreds of miles in one doesn't appeal in the slightest. Like the idea of them as I can drive down with it in the boot, quick days surfing, then tow a car home! Got an '05 Grand Cherokee CRD so the tow car isn't an issue. Any advice would be grateful. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-CAR-RECOVERY-A-FRAME-TOWING-DOLLY-TRAILER-2-6Ton-/220840113598?pt=UK_Recovery_Tools&hash=item336b18b5be

Car you're towing has to have MOT, Tax and Insurance in theory. I've got away with none of the above. If you're towing solo you'll need B+E as most cars will we well over the weight limit of an unbraked trailer.

I used to work for a national hire company, and we used to hire them out. We stopped doing them when the logistics side of the company told the 'hire' side that it was a can of worms ......
You need towing entitlement on your licence.
It will be classed by Traffic and Vosa as a trailer, so needs to be under 750kg as unbraked trailer.
Last I heard, you can't use on motorway unless licenced recovery agent.
What recovery truck does you mate have? I assume from your licence its a 'transit' sized jobbie?

Feck and shiz.
Yeah it's a 2008 Transit, but I know he's hunting for a new rear diff as currently it does nearly 4200rpm at 60mph apparently.
Best get a trailer test booked then!

these & dollies are a vosa fav som much op for points win prizes now thier self funding.
are you old enough/correct licence. only supposed to be used for the recovery of broken down vehicles (ie road legal) to a safe place to allow proper recovery or repair (roadside to allow contiueation of journey) . NOT for the transportation of vechles (roadwothy or not).
this is why AA/RAC etc now have breaked versions (dollies) & motorhomers have to have braked A frame equipment or are trailering thier micro cars.

I require B+E being only 30 years of age hence the point of this post. Wasn't aware they couldn't be used for prolonged towing as such. So yeah, I want to get a trailer test done for my race car in a couple of seasons time, and try and find my mate a better diff for his tranny if I need to borrow it! Sods law all the cars I've been searching for years come up at the same time and make life complicated!
