Hey guys,
Thought some of you keen on J-motors may be keen to hear about this, so here goes.
A wee while back I met with a guy from Dunedin who owns a 510, infact there's pictures on this very site of the 3 Datsun's together. During the meeting he informed me of a guy in Dunedin who had a Fairlady with "Factory" Arch flares on it. Now, those in the know, will know, this can only really mean 2 cars. the Fairlady Z432-R and the Fairlady 240ZG, both VERY rare, VERY sought after, VERY rarely seen outside Japan cars. So obviously I had my doubts.
Anyway, the guy from Dunedin (Hayden) organised for us to meet with this guy and have a look at his car, which the owner believed to be a 240ZG, so I travelled a couple of hundred kilometres with my brother to investigate... as you do.
Before I went, I attained information from a guy that some of you in the UK may know of, Alan, who owns a genuine Fairlady 240ZG, information that may help me in identifying whether the car was the real deal, or a replica.
When we got there I saw it sitting in the back of his shed, behind a Fairlady Roadster chassis on it's way to being restored for classic racing and a Datsun 240Z completely restored to absolutely MINT condition. I immediately realised I wouldn't be able to tell for sure as the car had a few things on it I had no clue about in relation to ZG's, however the colour was right and the nose did look good. So I took a few photos and basically because there wasn't much time, left without any real conclusion.
However, after returning home and emailing the pictures and details to Alan, the verdict is that judging by what is seen in the pictures that it is infact the GENUINE ARTICLE! I can't believe it! in little ol' NZ! SO needless to say, I shall be going back to view it sometime in the next few months and hopefully have a big long ridiculous talk to the owner. I can't wait.
So anyway... here she is!
