fuggin british engineering at its best, only had the Rangey a week and its already had more faults than the BMW in the 15 months i've had it. its started stalling now and again and takes a bit to start it, new plugs and dizzy cap tomorrow me thinks. I had forgotten what its like to be stranded in the middle of the road. Great isn't it? Has some fun on the forestry commission tracks at the weekend though, 10 inches of snow was a doddle in low box with the air suspension jacked up. 180 miles so far on this last top up of £56, the lights nearly on though, I make that about 13mpg. ouch! Question is, can I stick it out or will the rangey break down or break the bank before the beemer sells. Its hard to comprehend that the bm is only worth 8 or 900 quid, its been such a good car. I must be mad selling it.

Blimey. That's harsh! Keith Adams of the Austin Rover site has just done a run to Poland and back, towing an SD1 and managed 20mpg! Granted, he was travelling no faster than 60mph for most of that. Didn't have one problem with the car.

Yeah, they are cheap for parts, but tend to need them. At least you can fit a lot of them yourself or using your favourite back street workshop, you don't need a franchise main stealer to reach for the rubber gloves the second you say "how much to..."

I feel I could live to regret the change but i'm a five car man at the mo and thats too many (in her eyes). It is quite cool that 3 of them are v8's though. side note:- Total bhp is about 1100 based on std figures. might have to tot it up when everything is running as it should be nearer 1600, thats nearly enough.
It wouldn't be so bad if I had more of them on classic insurance but the 530i and the Rangey aren't. the M3 is and the Triumph will be and the Evo is an import and has a cage so options are really limited and costs more than it should.
back to the rangey, I changed the plugs today and the dizzy cap and was initially dissapointed that it wasn't running any better until I noticed I hadn't plugged the afm back in.
I've been spoiled by the 5 series though, its been a cracking car but I need something bigger to get the lad's mini motorbike in and when I start carting bits around to build the new rear suspension for the Triumph the 5 series saloon just won't cut it. at least I have several back-up cars to use when the old girl is feeling under the weather. At least the money for the 530 will keep me in Range Rover parts for a while..... I tell you, the seats would go well in the Triumph too.
As soon as she learns to drive we can look for another member for the family, I can't wait.
