For an early 80's J Rocket...
Something like an early 80's Supra...
;D
It all happened when my dad mentioned that his mate is selling a 5 speed manual 2.8 (1982) for... well not a whole lot.
Its a tidy car so I'm told, but has a bit of a noise from the top end... and a gash shelf spoiler (original supplied)
What do you guys rekon?, I'm at that age now where I can insure something a bit quicker.. so looking at these with some serious thought.

I can see them being a major headache for parts... I've called a couple of local factors today to see about cam bearings, and it's not happening Anyone got any ideas? or is it main stealer only?

main stealer, or places in america. i have some spares aswell.
its ok if you know what you need and order stuff in time, but these cars arent ones you can just nip out and buy some parts for on a sunday afternoon.
if you need any more advice just ask.

P.S There's a spare 5M in the garage, although being I'm in NZ, that probably doesn't help.

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

The chap is bringing it round for me to look at today, he rekons the noise is only at a certain point in the RPM range, anything below or above that and it quietens out, he's gonna get someone to take a look today. it's a UK car with 5 months MOT and tax till end of Feb, the insurance is a LOT cheaper than I expected too The underside is meant to be OK, infact he rekons it's a really tidy car, but we'll see... Looks like I'm gonna be the proud owner of some J tin then...

yeh rust is an issue, don't worry about a rusty hatch, they all rust there,... inner reararches will be rusty, the engines are pretty much strong workhorses, mines got over 200k on the clock, and despite mistreatment still battles on.

after deciding the one I looked at was a bit rusty, I've been offered his "other" 82, same spec, but less grotty..
Will keep you posted.

If they are owt like MR2's, which they probs are, if one turns up without rust its either; a bargain and miracle, something else serious is up with it (tick), or its a low miler friend of the garage, and may have a big price tag.
Looking forward to pictures.

Oh curse word.... The 3.0i is really nice... , I know it's far less cool than the 2.8 one, but it drives GREAT.... And it's got a fair MOT on it... and I can get spares, and it's cheap... like REALLY cheap. And it's got leather.... Oh and its sat outside my house...
