Having read another thread about the rarity of some of these '70's J-motors, it reminded me of a car I found a while ago in the scrappers.
It was badged a Datsun SSS - now I'm not at all familiar with these old J-motors, and had I known at the time I'd have paid more attention! I think it may have been badged a Bluebird too but I may be getting confused!
So did I happen across a mega-rare piece of fine Japanese engineering? It wasn't there long... I really hope it was bought by an enthusiast although it was rotten from sills to roofline... We did stand around admiring it's quirkiness for some time!

How new was it? Starting from the 1980s they started abusing the SSS badge and putting it on rather mundane Bluebirds and Pulsars.
The SSS cars that people get excited over are the earlier cars when they actually meant something like twin carbs etc, not just more luxurious trim

My local scrappie has a very early Opel Manta in it, and a nice Volvo 760 3 litre, but that one has parts of the engine missing, and the Manta's quite badly rusted around the wheelarches and seemingly underneath the black vinyl roof as the rust is coming out around the edges of the roof quite badly.

The Datsun I saw was (from memory) 1976 or 77. The most distinguishing feature I can remember is the rear window which had 90 degree angles in it as it formed part of the C pillar. I can't find a photo on Google but I'd really like to know just what it is I saw!

I'm almost sure it was like Rmad's pic - like I said, I wish I'd paid more attention! I remember twin carbs of some description, and pillarless doors. It looked as if it had been dredged from a lake so things were a bit messy! I hope someone saved it and it wasn't crushed. There was another Bluebird SSS I saw (on the road) which had the strange wrap-around back window, but I think this was a later model - 82 or 83.... Not as rare, I dare say, but still really interesting!
