Taht's a later 1500, so you already have the best rear end (oh err missus) Poly bush EVERYTHING and and it'll really handle rather well (assuming you ensure shocks, springs etc are on point) They also look better an inch or so lower Look for rot in the sills (structural on these), rear kickboards, front end, basically everywhere. Anything specific you want to know?

This ones not a 1500 its a very late mk4 with a 1300 under the bonnet the badging is missing and it was originally sienna brown. The main reason I couldn't resist buying it is the rot freeness of it.
Lots of piccies when it gets home.

Oh and ive heard horror stories about Trunions in the front suspension failing on these.
Do they need oiling or greasing every 3k miles and what symptoms do they tend to give before dropping a corner of the tarmac.

Ah, my bad. Same body The 1300 revs better and is usually favoured for tuning, but the 1500 gives a little more bottom end torque and power. IIRC the Mk4's had the swing axle with fixed spring. If so, I'd strongly suggest swapping over to the swing sprig and thicker 7/8" ARB up front. Don't bother with a rear ARB, they're unneccesary for road use. There are horror stories about trunnions snapping. Its actually the threaded section of the vertical link that snaps. That said, I've never had an issue with either my Sprintfire of Vitesse (touch wood) and they both have far wider than normal tyres. I just bear that in mind when manouvouring (they nearly always break at low speed) and never screw them round on full lock. They should be oiled regularly with 90weight gear oil. Removing the plug, fitting a nipple, pumping in and then replacing the plug. That said, many aftermarket repro trunnions don't have any facility to lubricate them, other than complete dissasembly! Tbh, I've never lubed any of mine No warning is ever given btw, they just snap!

Its also handy it being a 1300 as I have another 1300 engine in the garage that came out of my FWD which is currently undergoing surgery.
