Fitted a new clutch to the 1.4 k series engine in the mini.
Now when the clutch pedal is depressed, there is an intermittent grinding noise.
The clutch operates as it should, just this horrible grinding noise when the pedal is first depressed (goes awsy if you hold the pedal down) and when the biting point is reached the noise returns.
It's a 1.4 Rover Metro box mated to a late Rover 25 engine.
curse word release bearing?

The plate isn't in the wrong way round is it? if so the springs and gubbins will rub on the flywheel. It's usually fairly obvious if it's the wrong way round, but I've never seen a metro clutch.

That was my first fear, but I don't think its possible, friction plate has a proud boss on one side so only goes one way.
Sorted itself out in the end, so I'm presuming it was just rust on the flywheel or pressure plate. This is the first time I'd tried it since fitting the clutch a few months ago.
Whoop!
