Well, I hope this still falls into the remit of Retro Rides, if not, please PM me with suggestions. Many of you know that the Transit is for sale, and will be replaced by something pickup shaped and again Retro. One of the things that never bothered me, in fact I loved it a whole lot, as it made the bus unmistakeable, even though it was the only one on the road in the UK, was the graffitti that Oldbus had added to the side in 2007 when he found the bus for me. Now if you want to sell the bus, many of us (Me included) would not be bothered, but the more serious flatcappers (Sorry Bryn ;D ) may not approve of it. So in order to get it right, I want to remove the graffitti, see photo taken yesterday, below. I do not want to damage the red paint, and do not want to leave a load of marks...... SO, does anyone have suggestions on an EFFFECTIVE, EASY, NON ABBRASIVE way to remove this old primer? I had a suggestion of Brake cleaner, any advances on that, and how to use it, if it is the answer? Thanks as always for all your contributions. Oldbus driving it in Germany the day before it came over

celly thinners and lots of clean rags would be my choice. dab thinners on rag, wipe over the primer. primer should transfer to the rag. Reason I say lots of clean rags, is they will get so saturated with primer and end up just smearing the primer around. so long as you are carefull it should wipe off. Just be wary of getting the area too wet with thinners, as it might lift the red paint, or worse, mix it with the primer. other option would be to wet flat and re-polish, but I cant see that blending too well with the rest of the paint

^ What he said ;D It does work quite well, either that or some 2000grade wet and dry all over and a proper machine polish afterwards with a wax coat too. Which is more than worth while as you'll add value by doing so. Oh and less of the serious

Thanks for the advice guys, worked like a charm. NO MORE GRIZZ MOBILE......After getting some advice on removing the Graffitti which this bus was known by, as it may put some buyers off, I have used some thinners, a couple of rags and done 4 passes on it all, soak, scrub, scrub, wash and then wiped again with a good old T-shirt. GOING....... GOING....... GONE !!!! Next up some polish and a bit of rubbing should see it almost disappear.

Just to show the final outcome of today's exercise. Next up I spent over 5 hours with T-Cut polishing and hand buffing the whole van, even the roof, which is a PITA. I must say, it has come up pretty decently, so I hope it helps when it comes to selling. GRIZZ-MOBILE graffitti side polished out well. Other side done as well. By this time I had to push the van inside again, as evening condensation was coming down.

looking good! hope you gave it a coat of wax after the t-cut!! glad the thinners worked and didn't strip the red off! Thanks guys for the comments. Not too sore today, and slept on Ibuprofen and paracetamol coctail taken prophylactically ;D ;D ;D ;D Jon, I did not wax it, I am selling it, next guy can wax if he is not painting it. I think the paint was strong and old enough to resist the thinners. Ohh, and I have a gentle hand at times.
