what rover v8 & what manual gearbox combo is best? ie whats the easyist to mate together, i'd probobly go for the longstroke rover v8 is it the 4.2, the big v8, cheers chaps

Yep 4.2 is the biggest they did with a distributor. The 4.6 is a dizzyless engine with everything controlled by a clever box of tricks that is linked to everything in the original car. Basically it won't let the engine run if it's out of its original car so you have to use a different ECU to control it.
4.2 is an injected engine but it's a lot of grief and expensive to map up if its modified so I might be inclined to run a 4-barrel on it.
You can use a standard 4 or 5 speed Rover box, you also have a TVR box that bolts right up, the Cosworth T5 can be used, Supra boxes fit with an adapter and some guys use the Getrag box off the manual Jags. Rare as anything though. I've driven a revvy 3.9 with the standard Rover 5 speed and that was nice, and a stormer of a 4.2 with the TVR box. The TVR box has quite a short 1st so you need to pick your back end ratio carefully but it makes for a nice lazy cruise on the motorway at 80mph or more.

i know its been done lots but i'd like to put it in my triumph 2500, not after big power really, just for the sound & reliabuilty, i'm famlier with megajolt mappable ignition so that would be a good move on the v8 i reckon, the long engine is the torqueeee motor out of the bunch is'nt it, i'd want acarb'd engine to be fair, what i know!

Ooh, another V8 Triumph 2000. I like your style.
I never drove my car with the RV8 and SD1 box for more than 200yds so can't comment other than it fits in the transmission tunnel ok. That probably won't be the case with the TH350 autobox i want to fit with the Chevy v8 but i won't know until i try and get it in there so to speak. My back-up option is a Supra 5 spd but i can't comment on this either other than i seem to remember the Supra box being quite a bit bigger than the LT77.

oooh oooh do you have a v8 triumph 200 then, would you explain what it was like to get the sd1 & v8 in it, how you do the engine mounts, whats needed, i have lots of 3mm plate for making stuff, i've just got me an enging crane & i think i'm gonna take the v8 route as i ant to make my 2500 a tow car/weekend cruiser, i've got a tow-bar for mine too!  |

Unfortunately i bought my car with the engine and box fitted and the guys made a bit of a hash of it so i wouldn't take any tips from it. there's a thread on here with some pictures somewhere, have a look for it and if the pictures (on tinypic) have expired let me know and i'll see if i can upload them onto my photobucket account.
Hopefully within the next 2 weeks i should get the Triumph up on the lift so i can take some proper underneath shots for you. its a bit rough mind but its all coming out for the chevy small block along with the rear end. I plan on regular updates like nightmaresracing but don't expect me to work so fast.

that would be ace if you could do some pics once shes up on the lift, i'm gonna grab a cuppa ina bit & search for the v8 triumph i seen on here b4, was only within the last couple of months i think, i gotta get my tiumph some lrp & get her running again, then prep it for an MOT, once she's legal i'll tart her up in primer, AGAIN & sort a v8 in her, all done on a drive, arrrh, i gotta do it now, i want a v8 bad, there are so many options you can take if you want to, & cheaply, may i ask why you are going the chevy route |

mmm, not sure why i went that way. seemed like a good idea at the time and i (did) have more money than sense.
And i can get some proper power out of the sbc, especially with this blower on it. ;D

bloody norah! haha charged too! i presume you've got plans for the rear axle, known to be a bit waek on the triuphs, i don't know if this is myth or not, the components are'nt puny by any means

The weakness at the rear is the ally swingarms, they can shatter quite easily...
I ran a 2500S estate many years ago and used it as a tow car for bangers, the standard engine with it's peak torque at 2000rpm was great for this. It happily pulled a trailer with an XJ6 on for over 60 miles, at a steady pace...
Also with the overdrive, you get 80mph cruising at a leisurely 3000rpm...
You mention lrp, I had mine when that was still around.
Don't want to be discouraging, but have you considered getting the standard engine sorted for unleaded? It's a great lump ;D
