Looks like a 38 DGAS to me. Came as standard on 3.0 Capris and the like, but I have seen them adapted onto Rovers. Anyway, if you look round the base of the carb there should be a part / model no. like that there

looks dgas to me. you can get a complete one for not too much cash, unless the choke butterflys are out to improve performance, not realy much cop on a road car though.

yep 38dgas usually found on 3ltr capris granadas (or it could be a 40 idf of a scimiter 3 ltr ) if the chokes open one then the other its a 38 if they open at the same time its a 40

Thanks for all the info guys, I had it in my mind it was a 38 DGAS for some reason, i'll check it out properly tomorrow in the light t0o see if i can see any more distinguishing marks. The manifold is a butchered Rover one, it just has a mounting plate welded to it. No swap needed thanks as i'm getting rid of the Rover engine. I have a set of rough SU's but they have some bits missing so they won't work. I have a new 390 Holley and Edelbrock manifold that i bought to go on the RV8 in the Triumph but now I have the small block chevy its nowhere near big enough so its all going on ebay.

you might have found it hard to start as it has no choke flaps.
did you ever try pumping the pedal a few times before starting?

Black V8driver, yes thats the car. bought it off a guy in Somerset i think. had it trailered up here blind and wished i had seen it in the flesh first, pictures can be so flattering. anyway, no use crying over spilled milk. I have some pictures on this site somewhere, if you search for them there are a few. i sure would be interested in hearing more about the car if you can tell me anything. its getting a blown small block chevy fitted to it as the rover wasn't enough, not that i even drove it like that, i just got carried away (the story of my life )
