can buy bike cans with removeable baffles
if your silencer on the car is sideways like an mgf or a honda aerodeck etc then gettin it to fit the bike zorst aint usually hard - most bike zorst outlets are usually 50mm and you can buy sleeves v easily. also if they BS stamped mot man wont look at them although ive had race cans with no stamps on a bike at mot time and they don't even look at them as long as they aint mega noise theyll pass

cheers hairnet, as for power. guess its just trial and error.... I would of thought the gas escaping easily without loads of turns and twists would be better, but i know exhaust science isnt that simple!

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

the bend thing doesnt apply to 4 strokes.......more important to 2 stroke
but straighter and more flow is always better

MoT should be no worries.... there's no actual figure for how loud 'too loud' is, they don't measure it objectively. It's just if they fire your car up in the test station and peoples ears are bleeding 1/4 mile away they'll fail it! It just comes down to the testers opinion but they're normally pretty lax, as they test cars indoors and everything will sound loud.
I'm definately thinking of building one for the fastback, it's currently got a Bugpack 'quiet pack' on which as a) rusted to the point of ugliness and b) got a mounting bracket which is at least 6 inches away from any point it could mount to, so it wafts around putting force on the mounting flange.
Reckon a TVR twin-exit sideways jobbie would look borderline barry, but a little semi-hidden bike can would be pretty fly. I'm really not fussed about noise, I'd prefer a subtle rumble to a ballsy roar anyway.

I bought a pair of chrome bike exhausts some time back with the intention of fitting them to my car. The bore looked about right so I snapped them up for fifteen quid the pair at an autojumble. On closer inspection, inside the cans, the bore had a reducer and looked pretty restrictive so I ditched the idea, slung 'em on the bay and made a small profit. I'm sure all bike silencers aren't like that, but it's worth bearing in mind when shopping around for some I think the reducers are a way of restricting the bike to 33bhp which you need for learners at a certain age. Even some scooters have this. They can be removed pretty easily though The exhausts are only a tiny part of restricting a bike. Its either restricted through the carb (EPS) or CDI unit, or both. Err sorry just read your post phatphord

Surely it makes no difference whether you use a bike silencer or car silencer, the important thing is the flow characteristics, construction and bore? You can get plenty of 2.5"carbon fibre car cans etc on egay now.....or stainless or whatever. And if you're after volume then these would be the way to go imo.
I'd get a nice 4 into 1 manifold for it and connect it to a j-style end can ftw!

I stuck a 2" 'race can' on the back of my Cavalier once - purely 'cos I had one lying around when the original one dropped off.... Sounded a bit nicer, but that's about it!

I took a Suzuki Bandit pipe to add to my "Dirty" bike. Pipe cost £15 incl postage from somewhere in the country. Sounds nasty when you give it some. Also pipe is very unrestricted, so I guess one of these could sound real good on a car. Keep in mind that they really only bark when the boot get stuck in. This was it being fitted a while ago. Suspect it will be too loud for MOT.
