There could be a switch on the ato box (to prevent you from starting the car unles it's in park!) I don't remember where your electrical system is from!
I only know this because I had to put a + from the ignition to this on my car when i fitted the S3 auto wiering loom on my S1 manual car!
Looking forward to a video of it running before Christmas :-)

Thanks Varelse and Smeden I didn't have a chance to have another look at the starter electrics but I have found the gear selector and operating cable. Needless to say that the selector is back at the Diff unless I put a loop in the thick Bowden cable so I will try and get a shorter system sorted - direct from the shifter to the change lever? Here is a picture of the more fixed front double grille.

Thanks Jackdaw It's Christmas so I bought the BGT a present (Yes...... I've actually spent money!) Well if it is to run by next week, it will need fuel in the carbs. Thanks also to Rally Design for very good service.

Used rally design a few times my self and can't fault there service. Build looks good, I've probably missed it as I'm sure you will have mentioned it but what box are you using?

Just with mentioning cables I had a similar issue trying to fit a torqued flite 727 in my last offroader and ended up getting a new b&q cable from summit racing. As no matter what I did the original one jut won't go where I wanted and then when we modified it after about 30 shifts would go out of sync.

Hi Jackdaw Rally Design has a website and fuel cells range from £130 to £300 odd- mine was one of the cheaper ones!

I spent a bit of time dismantling the gear selector. The gearbox end was just a collet which locked onto a rod end of the cable. The other end was just a simple bearing held in place with a split pin. Then I put the selector cover back on the gear lever - and realised that it fitted the other way round (I had only put it loosely back together after stripping it from the XJ-S). Then it all made sense! The Bowden cable loops back 180 degrees to put the selector back above the gearbox......(Pic to follow).

Here is the picture of the gearlever in approx position - a frame/gearbox cover will provide the fixing points. And here is where the fuel tank will sit. When I revise the rear framework, it will be lower.

Unfortunately things have conspired to prevent more work on the BGT over the past few days so no fire up by Christmas ...but possibly this year?? Anyway "Happy Christmas" to readers of this thread

Unfortunately no further progress - and work is shut until the 4th, so I reflected on the progress (or lack of?) and in fact there have been quite a few aspects which are now sorted and so 2016 should be the year when it all comes together.

I was able to use the welder today and so worked on the Drivers side exhaust - much cutting ................and welding .......and it ends up looking like this. Not as pretty as some - but it should be a lot more effective than the old cast iron headers!

Just read this from start to finish! You sir, are bonkers in a good way!
Two quick questions if I may?
1. Is there a reason you didn't try to fire the Jag up before u removed its heart?
2. With the 8 point rule blown already, how do you intend to register it when finished?
Great work and now bookmarked..,

I have told the DVLA about the BGT reg and changes but they weren't really interested until it is complete. However it is really for the odd RWYB and possible shows/garage candy so a trailer queen it may be if I cannot get some form of registration. Adam It is getting "Quite" close to a try at firing up......

Another job done, as I have welded the lower radiator support brackets to the front chassis legs. With the radiator in position, I then tried the fan shroud, which has a small electric fan and space for another larger fan.

I did get the starter off and working today - then I put it back on the engine and it has turned over! but no ignition electrics yet.....
