OK, so last night, myself and Jabbo were out "measuring" stuff down the tube for our sins.... Fancied getting home a bit sharpish and saw just shy of a ton-thirty out of the zin-zinner: with bags to spare too!!!! Considering it's 14 years old and has a starship mileage, I'm V.V.V. impressed!! It's going in for a service with my local BMW specialist on Monday, so I'm prepared for a pretty steep bill though....

Good work that man! My pulse rate often rises with the speedo on these sort of "tests" when conducting them! ;D

It's when the scenery is really flashing past you in a scary way that you know it's time to back off.....
For anyone interested though.... go through the Hatfield Tunnel at full throttle with the windows down... it borders on the orgasmic....!! You can keep your GT4 on the PS2... That's the real deal! ;D

There's a roundabout on the A1 at Biggleswade (the first one you come to after leaving London!) that my brother-in-law reckons he can take at a ton in his escort. I haven't tried it quite that fast in the beemer yet, but if I turn right at it (to go to my house) it can be an absolute hoot - especially if it's been raining a bit (but not TOO much!). Opposite-lock-a-rama!!!

Taity: Aren't there shed-loads of speed traps on the A2? - Jabbo tells me it's bobbins and you're lucky to crack a ton. PS> I see you another member on PCnet - what do you reckon to it..... It's all a bit Rowva for my liking.... maybe it'll get better....?

I had 2 Fiat Uno turbos about 7 years ago, one was standard, would do 125mph at about 5500rpm in 5th, 2nd one had modded dump valve but speedo wasn't working, took it past the red on the rev counter one night, thought I was in 4th... was in 5th @ 6750-7000 rpm!! in a BL**DY FIAT UNO!! ... miss that car, I had all the turbo stickers removed and put a Uno 45 1litre badge on it, but it fell apart with rust.

But the scariest trip i had was in my brothers 127 GT when he got it up to 115mph in pursuit of a Golf GTI

My old Passat Estate used to do regular 120+ runs around the M25. I really miss the speed...my old boss used to say that speeding doesn't actually get you to your destination quicker...but I'm pretty sure that nearly doubling the speed limit at 3am saved me a lot of time! My current Transit Tourneo/Austin Metro/Toyota Cressida combination means that my life and licence risking days have passed though...which is probably for the best. Except for the 15" BBS rims it was almost entirely invisible to the police:

The best one i did was in my mk1 cooper s (replica) 1380 racing a vectra 2.5v6 down a bypass the speedo was reading past the 100, past the oil warning light, past the mileometer to just after high beam light (nearly back to 0) it was bout 8500rpm.the stearing wheel felt relly light and didnt seem to do anything don't think the front wheels were on the floor at that point! i flew off the bypass down the slip road and 2 roundabouts later the vectra was long gone. he saw me again later that eek and gave chase down a country lane (idiot) so i blew him out the water again nd sent him home crying into his repmobile leather seats!

I agree with earlier statements though that a set of bends are far better than out-and-out speed. When what you see ahead of you is going past you almost before you can register it, it just kind of unnerves me and I don't really enjoy it. What put me off was travelling up the Autostrada in Italy doing 110 in a hired Ford Fucus, when a guy in an Alfa 164 we were passing decided to change lanes whilst we were alongside. Must have come within an inch of the Armco and would've been very nasty. The car had a nice Alfa-coloured stripe down the side of it after that little episode! ;D My trousers also had a "racing stripe" in them!
