Could somebody please shed some light on how to adjust the amount of fuel goes through the carb, I can adjust the idle speed but that's about my lot. My exhaust stinks of fuel and it costs a lot to run. It's on a pinto with a mild cam and raised compression and standard injection head. Any pointers appreciated

Firstly check the timing - too much advance will make the exhaust seem rich, the idle lumpy, the proformance and economy poor. Given that the engine's modified the book timing figure means nothing - it'll have to be set by ear and feel. Are you running it on super unleaded? The combination of an engine designed to run on 4-star and a raised comrpession ratio means it's practially essential. IME, the improved economy that you get with the higher octane petrol sets off the extra cost, while the improved power is a bonus.
The only mixture adjustment on a fixed choke carb like that is the idle mixture screw. On the 32/36 DGAV fitted to my Rickman, it's on the base of the carb next to the primary choke (the one which opens first), pointing towards the same side of the carb as the throttle linkage. It's at a slight angle away from the linkage. On most it'll be in a tube as it was originally protected by a tamperproof cap, so you'll need a slim flat-bladed screwdriver to adjust it.
I'd strongly suggest getting the jetting checked out profressionally, as the engine's requirements will be different to those of a standard engine.
Finally, with the best will in the world, a breathed upon 2.0 pinto on a carb's not going to be hugely efficient.

First thing i would do is refurb the carb, get a £18 rebuild kit and 2 or 3 tins of carb cleaner, strip it down and blast cleaner through all the air and fuel ways inc the jets, that will often make a load of differance. The last one i rebuilt gained me 10 MPG on a Mk2 transit camper i had, it was drinking it like it was going out of fashon and the zorst stank of fuel, mainly due to the fuel not atomising correctly when leaving the jets. Has tye carb been played with (rejetted) for the mods?

As far as I know it's a standard carb, I will give it a bit of a clean and lean off the mixture a bit and see how it goes, it's just a stop gap until I can get a manifold for my R1 bike carbs made. As it stands at the moment it idles rough but once it's on the move it's really good but it's just not very economic mind you if it didn't sound so good when I give a bit of a boot the fuel might last longer lol

might be worth looking if you can get a cheap weber carb tuning book on fleabay or amagibbon . If you decide to keep it a brand spanking carb is £220 ish - just food for thought .
