Firstly....I am American and cars here are rubbish
Alright, now Ive already imported a car to the US from Britain but as it was on military orders I was never sure what a general price is to do so. I have a high respect/bordering on obsession with Euro cars and would like to stick withthem because even my originally 300 quid Scirocco is bulletproof.
So two questions: 1) What should I get in build quality respects 2) What export companies on your end is the best/cheapest
Cheer!

There are a few sellers, but UK and USA based..... V8jimmy, Oldsnoname and others who bring in USA cars, they will be the best to get a shortcut to info, to find out your legal, financial and other considderations. Hope that helps.

I've recently moved back to the states after living in the UK for 15 years. I've looked into what is needed to ship a car/bike/etc from the UK to the USA and it's a total nightmare. I've shipped cars from the USA to the UK and it's a doddle. So straight forward. to ship a car from anywhere (even in Canada ) you have to go through a registered importer, www.nhtsa.gov/cars/rules/import/web_RI_list01122006.htmland they can pretty much charge what they like. If you try to by pass them, your car gets locked in customs and you'll never see it. They do it with engines too. I looked into bringing a 2003 PX125 Vespa and 2002 triumph speed triple, from the UK to USA and even though the same bikes were sold here, they would need federalizing and was getting quoted $3000+ EACH bike, just to look into the feasibility of it. For older stuff it's easier, but as I said, nothing like shipping from the USA to the UK.

If the car is 25+ years old, you can import anything. Under that? $4-5k minimum, up to hundreds of thousands to get a car in.
