The day has arrived, the sky is blue, the air is crisp and I have a huge wodge of cash in my pocket Our taxi down to Bournemouth arrived and we headed out for the 2 hour drive down with some friends from our VW club, sat up front with Kavan I watched his every move to try and ready myself for the first time behind the wheel of a camper(and first LHD in this country if you don't count a 450hp V8 Jeep), Kim(SWMBO) and Jo amused the kids in the back, after a stop for coffee we soon arrived to find "the bus with no name" parked in the sun waiting for us.... ....after handing over cash and signing the paperwork we started the trip home, well we did after a jump from a booster pack as the battery was flat(or so I thought) with cheery smiles we aimed at the nearest petrol station to fill up

We cruised the streets looking for the Beach and after a detour we parked up near the pier in Bournemouth For a slap up fish and chip supper Mmmmmmmm Fed and ready we hit the road, a gentle drive home was called for so we avoided the main roads and headed into the New Forest, where I attempted to master the basics of driving on the other side of the cab, with much success ;D

We stopped in Beaulieu to gawp at the Classic car showroom there B) And continued the drive home, with the kids in need of a "comfort" stop we parted ways and left the Dumbobuses at Winchester services, all was going great if a little :chilly: big coats and gloves a must next time. The traffic got very busy and we slowed in the queue when the Generator light came back on (it had been flicking all day but it hasn't run for so long the owner told us to bear with it) then all the lights went out and everything stopped, the last of the momentum took us to the hardshoulder of the M3 and we broke out the mobile to call for assistance, with over an hour to wait we tried Kavan & Jo for advice and thats when our knight in shining(well mutilcoloured) armour arrived. The battery wasn't charging so Kav fitted his spare battery and we set off again, through Basingstoke we trundled and onto the A33 home, thats when the lights dimmed a bit more until we we're flying along at 45mph with nothing but a candle to light our way, finally at the end of the A33 by the M4 junction the spare gave up and we coasted to a halt Quick as a flash Kav grabbed the good battery from Rex and swapped it for the spare and we started up once more, a quick bump start and both campers made the final leg of the trip to home. The camper is going to my mechanic for a service and lowering, the chap we bought from is covering the cost of parts and labour to repair the dynamo and battery problems ;D

Is it EVER possible to go anywhere in a Type 2 without the thing breaking down?
Nice camper you've got there though :-)

Well, glad you made it safe adn sound. The vendor sounds like a top bloke if he's covering the cost of the charging problem . I love the way the "lowering" bit of this quote is so casual! ;D

Thats because I used the smae thread on our VW forum and didn't want to upset the purists too much Only going down one spline at the back and 3-4inches on adjusters at the front, lower but not ground scrapping ;D

You tend to get a lot of dead Type 2s on the Devon section of the A30 for some reason. I think it's about as far as they can get towards Cornwall without playing up.
