Brilliant. Amazing how the front arches are in better nick than the boot floor Boot floor and spare wheel well corroded due to all the stuff left in the boot, 3 layers of carpet, seat covers, clothes, cushions all stuff that holds moisture This car has been very lucky to survive, being in a open barn with dry straw must have been the right conditions, if it had been parked outside it would have rotted away a long time ago

Work finished in engine bay First job was to clean the sump When the oil was first drained it was so thick and congealed that nothing came out when the sump plug was removed, i had to poke a hole through a thick crust at the bottom of the sump to let the oil out. I didn’t want to remove the sump, so to clean it a little tool was made to put through the sump plug hole and scrape the sludge out, once the thick stuff was removed from the bottom petrol was poured through the dipstick and left to soak in the sump over night. After soaking overnight compressed air was used to blast the petrol around the inside of the engine, this was repeated until the petrol came out clean. An endoscopic camera was used to inspect engine after and it looks spotless ready for new oil Radiator removed and flushed out, also flushed the engine out New heater hoses and a used top hose fitted New oil and filter New plugs, points, air filter, fan belt and thermostat fitted Dynamo wasn’t charging but a jiggle of the control box wires and it is now working again Heater fan, wipers, lights, fuel gauge are all working Master cylinder removed and rebuilt, all the brakes are now done on the car Battery clamp made as it didn’t have one compression test pics of engine bay finished

Nice work, looking forward to seeing how the patina looks when finished and cleaned with an MOT. Good story too, was welding the work that couldn't be paid for? Don't suppose the garage have a copy of the quote for the repairs in an old record book?

thanks for comments Nice work, looking forward to seeing how the patina looks when finished and cleaned with an MOT. Good story too, was welding the work that couldn't be paid for? Don't suppose the garage have a copy of the quote for the repairs in an old record book? i was told by the garage owners son that the previous owner couldn’t afford the repairs, i don’t know weather this is true or not but if it is i would imagine it was a due welding and it looks like the engine is burning oil due to all the old oil and stop smoke containers in the boot

Getting the barest minimum done to keep the car safely usable is a tricky balance to strike but you're doing a great job. I don't think I'd have the willpower to leave it alone in just the right way that you are so it's definitely in the right hands.

Thanks Yes it’s tempting to clean and paint things but any new paintwork/parts stand out so it’s been quite difficult making new repairs and new parts blend in to the rest of vehicle

Fantastic!!!! I love the fact you have left everything that didn't need work well alone, even the cobwebs. We have a '50s fiat multipla sitting at work that has exactly the same look and I have wanted to get it barely road legal for the past year or so but the owner won't sell. It just sits and rots.. I'm really glad this has been saved but also kept original. Will always look much better on the road then something that someone has piled heaps of money into.

That is amazing, and congrats on the MoT. I think this has to be one of my favourite RR cars this year. Makes rather a startling contrast with your other Viva, there's definitely a photo opportunity with the two of them.
