Thanks guys. I absolutely love the car, wanted a mk3 since I can remember. As soon as i could, i bought this off eBay. Would love to mod it but feel it would be a shame to ruin it's originality. Just needs the correct size tyres on. It even has a period spare pirelli. It's proper 80s! ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

Love XR3's, I had an early (y reg) injection in 1986 and loved it. As someone who fitted sunroofs in the eighties, I see that yours has a non factory fitment. It was very common practice when fitting sunroofs to fit a vinyl roof at the same time if you managed to ripple or scratch the roof whilst fitting the sun roof. I wonder if that is how yours has come to have a vinyl roof fitted? I'm sure that the factory never did such a fitment to XR3's.

You're probably right about the vinyl roof. I've been thinking for some time about taking it off and seeing what the damage is like underneath. Ideally I'd like to put a new roof panel on but we'll see.
I'm on seriesonersturbo but not posted much to be honest, have some other projects that have been taking up my time. At the moment i'm sorting out which of my projects to keep a hold of so hopefully I'll get some time on the Escort soon!

It's not just the colour that's an unusual and acquired taste, but the alloys too, most Escorts seem to have ditched their cloverleafs and doglegs in favour of more fashionable wheels. I do hope you keep the cloverleafs and the yellow, even if you end up modding it, just looks right as it is, and very much how I remember these growing up.

After many years debating whether to take the vinyl roof off, i've done it and I'm quite pleased that there is some metal underneath! Will need a respray though as whoever fitted it prepped the roof with a wire wheel. Overall quite pleased! I think it looks better without the vinyl. ![](http://i631.photobucket.com/albums/uu38/tomcrowden/XR3-NoVinyl.jpg)

I can understand why you'd want to remove the roof, but I think I'd've kept it and blacked the C-pillars to match instead. Still fantastically yellow and wearing those lovely alloys, so it's still good stuff.

Love it buddy, one of those colours you would never had wanted 'back in the day' which makes them even more desirable now, bit like a beige RS2000 would have been.

Looks much better without the vinyl roof for sure. Love the prairie yellow too; great to see a relatively early car in such a rare colour that hasn't been messed around with. 8 years ownership so far? I wish I could keep my vehicles that long! ![8-)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cool.png)

Do like the colour, & removal of vinyl roof, but can't help thinking of stripes given those of the seats & of course many of Fords efforts. Not that it should try & look like a wannabee RS etc. Perhaps even contrasting pinstripes like some of the contemporary Ford Lasers had here. At least it should all be easily removable vinyl stickers. linkFord LaserLaser SS2

Wow, that is superb! A super early XR3 in a super rare colour?! Yes indeed...!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think that that just needs to stay exactly as it is as standard examples of that model are getting rarer by the day.
Brilliant...

I think it looks 10x better without the vinyl, its too 70s for an XR3 white was all 80s. I've never seen one in that colour before, and I've seen a few. I'm a little bit jealous to be honest as I only sold mine on a couple of years back and had it since I was 17 (bought in 1995) and imported it from Germany, it was LHD of course. Maybe I'll get another one day.
