Dave ended up coming across on his own, and a bit earlier (ie middle of the night) in the biggest heaptransit evAr. woke me up a 3am to get a bed for the night too ;D
it wouldnt start the next day so he spent ages on the engine, eventually stripping part of the fuel pump system off, and it meant for the rest of the week he had to start it by lighting a paper fire in the intake to heat it up, and stall it to stop it running! [if you could call it running!]
i'm a lazy git, I know I am, so monday night we pulled the trailer out of the field, pumped ALL the tyres up and attached the light bar i'd bought at least a week ago...i say attached...
monday/tuesday night he did my kingpins, a simple regrease and good adjusting beats £100 a side from the "reputable" garage that ripped me off before anyway...
so with that, on tuesday dave went and stripped a few cars down, and brought me back a present...
my plan was to strip this for parts in the evenings, but Dave wasn't overly keen. apparently its better than some car's he's restored/ing...
He did appear to get quite attached to the vehicle...
Undeterred I attempted to start stripping it, but alas Dave had other plans...
Not entirely taken by that idea he assured me it would clean up well and all it really needs is the sills replaced anyway... As I prepared the tools (ie found my 10mm socket) he sneakily started on it with some wax in a frankly feeble attempt to get me to like the car (of course, I preferred it with the undergrowth ON it!)
It actually worked though, and taking the word of a well experienced mechanic we decided it would go back on the road in time. So, of course my immediate plan was to tub and sled the thing!
So we spent the end of the week working on that, and Dave managed to strip 3.5 iirc estelles at the yard where they're at. Quite a haul in fact, some stuff is still here!
Oh and of course the van just HAD to get worse, it now requires half a gallon of easi-start every time you stall-stop it lol! We weren't fans of this impracticality...
And so we rose at 4pm this morning and drove through VERY dense ****f**o***g*** (see what I did there) at about 40mph to the docks about 60 miles away or so. thats like the other side of the country!
Currently Dave is probably either stranded near Dumfries, or more hopefully somewhere around the Pennines heading for Hartlepool. He'd probably appreciate some good wishes, or a new van would be more practical ;D
