Ok, so now i know that to get a pinto into a lada is a big job, mainly as the bellhousing hits the stearing.
Now, i can put the lada engine back in, hopefully fix the missfire it had and have been trying to fix for 3 months now!
But i want to live the 120-150 bhp dream for my car by putting a fiat twin cam in it!
Why didnt i do that before you ask?
Well, for road rallying the rules state
"engines must have maximum of one camshaft per bank of cylinders. Engines with more than one camshaft per bank of cylinders maybe used providing that they where originaly fitted with fuel injection and that system complete with plenum chamber and throttle body is retained unmodified."
So i can fit a TC, aslong as its on fuel injection...
that is where my nightmare would start.
Firstly finding all the bits to run that set up, and then mounting it all too...
I would not want to run mejasquirt i would want the standard brian.
So what is really involved in putting this in my car?
thanks!
oh, also, does anyone have the fuel injection system?

I fitted a Fiat Twin Cam into a Lada in the early `90s. The engine bolts straight in. However I used the later 131 /132 gearbox which needed the trans tunnel lifting (the whole length). Also the area over the gearbox needed enlarging. If you use the lada box then I think it just bolts up. Or the 124 box, also found in the Polski Fiat will bolt straight in, I think. Fiat bits are getting rare. Pistons are not available unless old stock. www.beardmorebros.co.uk/website%20pages/lada.htmJohn

thanks mate! The box, i already have a type 9 in with tran x kit, so the box will not be a problem!
Its the fuel side of things I'm not sure of as i need to get it on fuel injection, its a job i would not look forward to doing.
what was the newest fiats that used the fuel injection on this type of engine?
as for pistons, I'm sure that Lada ones will fit in there some how as the little ends are the same.

I'm guessing but perhaps the Fiat Croma ie. Also Lancias, of the 70's and '80s But all fwd so it'll be a mix and match of bits. Lots of info in t/c injection info here: www.turbo124.com/forum/

Is the stock lada fuel system a feed and return or just a single line from tank to carb? Basically for EFI you'll need two fuel lines and and a high pressure pump. For rallying you will really need some kind of surge tank to prevent fuel starvation under hard cornering. The last couple of these I have done i made myself using an old disposable gas bottle for a mig welder and used connectors taken from old carbs and manifolds to hook the fuel lines up. Here is the setup in my 510... The way this works is as follows. The low pressure fuel pump (the one with the blue end cap) draws fuel from the original tank pickup and shoves it into the talll black surge tank. When this is full to the top the excess comes out of the top pipe and is returned to the tank. The low pressure pumps job is to keep that tank full all the time and thus no way for the high pressure efi pump to starve of fuel at any time. The high pressure pump draws the fuel via the blue & red filter from the bottom of the tank and pumps to up to the engines fuel rail. the fuel circulates and returns to the surge tank to a connector just above the outlet to the efi pump. This system has been absolutely fool proof so far and I got no fuel starvation issues on a circuit even when the tank was very nearly empty.

I know next to nothing about F.I. so apologies if stupid questions:
Is a low pressure then high pressure pump typical? And for a road car? Doesn't the surge tank and high pressure pump need to be nearer to the engine? Can you safely use jubilee clips on the high pressure circuit (I've only ever seen the dedicated crimped stuff.) Putting the F.I.pump and surge tank in the boot would be ideal for me, the engine bay is cramped enough already.
Oh, your high pressure fuel line - do you run the rubber under the car all the way to the injectors or change to metal lines?
Many thanks
