E36 ......... ;D Joke ;D 1991 j plate so doesnt qualify as retro apparently Mk2 Golf Syncro (4x4 Golf if your wondering) 48,000 miles and same family owned, and dry stored from new Our Current syncro is on its last legs out in the Alps and I was looking for another one to replace it, without much luck unfortunately Then the engine "started making some funny noises and over heating" Its in France with Jane so I have been trying to Diagnose a problem with far from technical descriptions of the symptoms so the search for a replacement vehicle became rather more pressing..... It was looking like I was going to have to buy Hollywoods Panda 4x4 Anyway, spoke to a guy last night and have done a deal on a "new" Syncro instead....... ;D ;D He`s going to put a new stainless exhaust on it and fully underseal it as it`ll be going out to the alps, and MOT it Should be ready for collection next weekend......... Only downer is I live in Essex....... currently work in Wiltshire and the Car is in Kendal I`ll get some pics up in a bit ;D Cheers Dom

Joking aside, you've just hit the nail on the head - although it's a '91, it *does* qualify as retro - partly because it's an interesting and fairly rare example but mostly because the MkII Golf was launched way back in the early 80s.
Had it been a MkIII, though, I'd be calling into question it's retro status......

"A boring 4 door saloon" no less, and its totally standard and unmolested as well.... By your Rules that makes it not worthy of discussion here....... Except if you want to start a new thread and biff about it of course

Do you still not get the idea that it *is* retro based on the model being introduced way back in 1984-ish?
Seriously, this debate has gone on long enough, if we're going to let anyone with a 1990s family hatch / saloon call their car 'retro', then I'm in the wrong place.

Interesting pictures. I'd never seen under a Syncro before. My friend just sold a Jetta Syncro on eBay. You may have read me going on about it on here.

Had it been a MkIII, though, I'd be calling into question it's retro status...... Wrong. If it is interestingly modified,.. it fits here. Age is not an issue.

That is what VW did for the Mk4 Golf convertible. They slapped a MK4 front onto a MK3 convertible and upped the price

What are those wheels on the black Golf above? Looks like an Audi emblem in the centre or something similar.
