A stylish and original Series One Renault 4 in a wonderful preserved condition.
EQUIPMENT
Chrome bumpers with rubber over-riders, chrome waist trim, adjustable headlights, start handle, twin sun visors, ‘penny flap’ fresh air vents, heater and demister, booster fan, ashtray, folding rear seat, childproof safety locks, rear shelf, adjustable face-level vents, interior light, counterbalanced tailgate, dashboard parcel shelf, glovebox, warning lights for dynamo, oil pressure and temperature.
EXTERIOR
This charming Renault 4 is finished in Bleu, (Code 430), and looks fabulous. The paint has a few markings and the ultra-thin metal panels have age related dings but bizarrely these suit the cars character and reveal its honest nature. All the chrome trim is perfect and the metal strip and badges are pristine. Dealer fitted Renault mud-flaps are still intact at the rear, as are the black pressed aluminium number plates. The drivers front wing has two plug holes from an early fit wing mirror. The engine bay is spotless and all the original metal identification plates remain. There is no rust. A truly remarkable and very rare survivor.
INTERIOR
The interior of this Renault 4 is amazing. Everything is just perfect from the clean lines of the cream coloured facia with its neat, east to read instrument panel, to the flick switch controls and tumbler switches. The door panels finished in a panelled design are unmarked and the fully sprung seats upholstered in a soft grained leathercloth are immaculate. All the clean metal flooring, including the spacious 47 cu.ft luggage compartment, is covered in the original rubber floor matting. Under bonnet tools including the jack, wheel brace and start handle remain secured. Tremendous in every respect.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The four cylinder 845cc with a light alloy cylinder head is fuelled through a Solex carburettor and produces 30bhp. Incredible reliability with a sealed cooling system and simple mechanics makes perfect city ambling. Amazingly the 6-volt electrical system has been retained. Again, for connoisseurs of originality, the 3-speed manual transmission only fitted up to 1967 remains and offers smooth precise changing.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Correct and immaculate painted steel wheels with bright chrome hub-caps support new ContiEcoContact EP tyres of 135/80 R13 size. The spare, as with the rest of the underside is clean and rust free. Hydraulic drums on all wheels with a pressure limiting valve in the rear brake line offer adequate stopping power.
HISTORY FILE
An incredible history file waits to be presented to the new owner of this wonderful Renault 4. Plentiful invoices and MOT history dating back to 1974 help reassure the new owner of the care lavished on this vehicle. Handwritten entries in the handbook of all work carried out and at what mileage again add substance to the cars precise history. A mass of ‘La Renault’ Classic Car Club journals are neatly boxed in date order and no less than four classic car magazine features of this car are included. An original sales brochure from 1967 and workshop manuals are present. One for the collector.
