Yes, you need the proper sort of puller. I think PaulH (of well-used blue Amazon estate) has one so might be worth a PM to him?

You might struggle making something strong enough. The axle on my P1800 & 1800S was similar, if not the same, as an Amazon and it took a hydraulic puller to remove the drum. Luckilly I have a decent (£300 Sykes and Pickavant set) but otherwise I'd recommend hireing one if you can't scrounge. Unfortunatley you are too far away from me. Yes you really need the proper puller, I decided that this was just a sales pitch and I would use the 10 ton hydraulic puller I had.....WRONG! Broken puller, blow torch, drum and bent half shaft and had decided that nothing on earth would remove it. And then I tried the proper puller...... Wind in the nut ...BANG! And it's loose, no idea why, but it really is essential. Even with coppa slip, the drum / key way becomes solid in a very short time.

I use my Sykes Pickavant 5 leg puller on mine. It never pulls off from twisting force alone. I fidd you have to wind it up tight, then a bit more and tap the end a few times with a hammer and the drum always releases.
