Evening all. Every morning, we as retro-drivers have to dodge potholes, other idiot drivers, etc... to keep our cars in good nick. This morning was no different, except the transit van in front of me flicked up a massive rock that has taken a nice chunk out of the Dolomites windscreen I have to drive past a quarry on the way to work, and the amount of curse word that falls off the back of trucks because its either too full or got no cover over and ends up on the roads. Window company is coming out tomorrow morning to repair on insurance. Grrr... I will get pics up tomorrow because it's a bit dark now. Sorry, rant over.

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

Had a massive stone hit my bug Beetle screen the other week thought i was in for the same fate but was lucky.
If the road really is that bad you could inform the local council, because the company SHOULD ensure all the trucks leaving the site have clean tyres and the load is properly secure.
A friends dad got a puncture from a pothole also wheel damage, took a pic sent it to the council and they paid for both.

Not as bad as that skip coming out on BC but I feel ya pain. is it on your insurance? Oh God, no where near as bad as BC's near miss. Yea, its covered on insurance. If the road really is that bad you could inform the local council, because the company SHOULD ensure all the trucks leaving the site have clean tyres and the load is properly secure. I've been told by people at work that there has been compaints and stuff before, and nothing ever happens. Its the quarry in Brownhills if anyone knows it.

Take some photos of the road, send them to both the council and the quarry (and make it obvious they've both got copies) with a letter asking what their quarrying licence conditions are regarding keeping the road clear.
I know building work, if likely to deposit stones etc on the road, has to have a sweeper in operation so they should also.
Basically they may just pay your excess to shut you up, or they may ignore you entirely. but it's worth a try!

don't ask don't get I guess, but they are obliged to make sure no debris ends up on the roads. They will probably have a wheel wash for muddy trucks leaving but they obviously don't check to see if the loads secure!

legally, cuz i used to RIDE past a dirty stone quarry, the roads must be kept free from spillage and from overspill from the entrance. If you can get pix of unsecured large loads and excessively dirty trucks it may be worth contacting the people who regulate trucking/quarrying whoever they are, they will soon pay your excess and clean up if their operation itself is endangered...

The blokes just been round to do the windscreen. He has got the worst of it out, but he cant do anything about the little cracks coming off but at least it wont spead. Yea, I'm going to take the above advise from everyone and get some letters and pictures off to the quarry and local council. Even if I don't get anything from it, at least I've had a go...
