Now, i want to replace my air filter... ..for summit less fugly, maybe summit chromey and shiny, more like this: Know of anything? Also, i just came across this: SU HIFF44 Carb...anyone know anything about them? are they just for MGB's or is it a case of finding the right manifold adaptor?

I'm sure K&N must do a pancake style filter to fit a Stromberg. The HIF carb is the last real deveoplment of the SU I believe. Used on Metros too. Personally I prefer the older basic jet ones. You can get all the needels etc you'd need to make it suit. But why not get a pair of twin SU's as fitted to many of the Amazons?

Jealous of your nice shiny carb, particularly after cutting through all the gunk on mine to free off the accelerator linkage! ;D I'm a bit confused as to why an HIF44 would be a replacement for the Strommy 175. The HS6 / HIF6 is virtually identical - I'd have thought that would be a better match. In any case, I don't think there's much difference between the Stromberg and SU units. If I was gonna swap em about I'd do what Seth said and go for twin SU's (twin HS6 weren't they?). I'm sure there are kits available. With a bit of adaptation any air filter can be made to fit. I've got my 175CD sucking through a MG Maestro airbox with Saxo K&N filter inside... it's a separate airbox though, and isn't as shiney or pretty as those pancake jobs! *Edit* Also, as far as I know the only major difference between the HIF and HS is the internal float on the HIFs (I.F. meaning internal float)

Pancake one on a non crossflow engine..... It will be much worse that the current arrangement ;D Fit a pankake inside that box if you must and connect some donkey c0ck hose to it for a cold air feed from the front ;D

so you recon unless I have directional air flow it won't work as well? No I reckon all you are going to be breathing in is hot air, heated by the exhaust manifold directly below it ;D Engines like clean cold air..... a lot of it

£18?! Bargainous. Good point Dom. All this talk of airflow has made me consider my set-up. Whilst the airbox isn't particularly near the manifold, I think it could do with some induction piping. *Plans trip to B&Q...* On closer investigation, an HIF44 isn't a million miles away from an HIF6, and therefore quite similar to the Stromberg 175. So I still don't think it'd be much of an upgrade...

Clean it up and spraypaint it black, replace the top half of it with mesh, or drill a series of holes in it, fit some nice extra piping, job done ;D

The late model amazon had a ram pipe that was poked through the rad panel on the drivers side so parts should be available i think it was '69/'70 models DO NOT USE THE AIR FILTERS YOU HAVE PICTURED they ok for a push bike but on a car it would be strangling it due to not enough air flow. the more filter surface the better
