Well I had a go at getting the imp running today, all did not go to plan though. I got everything prepped and the filled it with oil, got a nice even 60psi at cranking, excellent. I plumbed in the fuel lines and put a couple of liters of fresh unleaded, switched on the pump and ive got a steady 42psi with no leaks, ace! I joined everything up electrickery wise, and plugged in the ECU, first problem, something was wrong and I opened up over 200 megatune files in a few seconds, control alt delete that suka to get it to stop. I had a play and got it to stop that. It connected up to the ECU ok but air and coolant temps were a little off, coolant showing over 200 degrees C, and inlet air at absolute zero. Being megasquirt you have to calibrate sensors so the ECU knows the resistance curve, this is what megatherm is for. So I did my test with the multimeter, got the figures and sent them back to the ECU. This is where it gets bad, as I am allergic to programming, my head dosent work that way. All mechanical things just work in my head, but programming makes me get that microsoft general error message in my brain, unfortunatly I don't have a control alt delete function ![:(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/sad.png) I have no idea how to change any of the programming that needs doing, all of the information is on the website, but its plain jibberish to me, I cant get any of it to work. To top it off now the computer says its connected to the ECU but shows no readings for pressure, temperatures, RPM nothing ![:(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/sad.png) cocking ballcks ![>:(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/angry.png) It does fire, but it only appears that I am getting sparks to two cylinders too. This is all too much for me guys ![:-[](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/embarrassed.png) hope others had a better day than me J

I know what you mean about all that programming malarkey - it's a totally different world! I take it you've tried the Megasquirt forums - maybe someone can put it all in more user-friendly langauge? Hey, you've done better than me, I haven't even finished building my Megasquirt yet! ![:-[](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/embarrassed.png) ;D Hope you sort it out ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

The thing is i know that all the information i need is already there on the internet. But I have no idea how to get it into my computer, thorugh my head, and then into the ECU.
I'm not really too sure where to turn?

Weellll.... I spend all day programming computers...
haven't dealt with ECU stuff yet, but I'm sure I could pick it up pretty quick....
I can try and give you advice remotely if you like...?

J Its not really programming ![???](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/huh.png) It will be the settings that are off.... first thing I would suggest is plug it back into the Stimulator and check the ecu is working as it should off the car ......because if it isnt then you will confuse yourself massively ![:o](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/shocked.png) go back and recheck all the values for the sensors as well, go back through the basic engine parameters too..... It will be a wiring or a sensor fault if the ECU is configured correctly, or a sensor value that is wrong..... This is just what I have learned so far from playing with the DTA software.... I gave up with Megasquirt for the same reasons you are now having..... but the DTA software ad manual help you get a much clearer understanding of how it works and what its looking for You can download both from www.dtafast.co.ukIt might help ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png)

Its asking for changes in the code at the moment There are so many versions and releases that i don't know what i need, do i want megasquirtNspark, megasquirtNsparkextra, VII??? Ive got to change the code to get the wide band working, and to get the sensors working? I have been put in the direction of megatunix, this is apparently much more user friendly that megatune and detects the version of ECu i have etc, ill try this tomorrow. The general setup is already in there, as its got code in it for a zetec, so all the injector settings etc should be ok. I hate being defeated by things ![>:(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/angry.png) J

If you tell me which boxes you're using, (I'm assuming there's one for injection, and one for sparks?), and all the sensors (some are probably extra over a basic set-up) and which websites you're looking at, I can have a mosey around to see if I can make sense of it... While it's not car-related, this is the sort of thing I do at work - learning to use a programming tool from very terse and technical instructions. ![:o](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/shocked.png) And yes, it does drive me mad at times, it's not just you ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png)

Right well the ECU controls both the spark and fuel, i am having problems with getting the air temp and coolant temp sensors. here is the page - www.megasquirt.info/I think ive got to organise the embedded code, and sort out the sensor code I love these lines - # First, install and learn to use MegaTune2.25 or higher, # Next, set the constants, # Get the engine started and idling, Ahhh ok then, ill get it started and idling! Punks ![>:(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/angry.png) J

megasquirt II Its a monsterous task, i knew ithis stage would be difficult, but then again so should making your own carbon trumpets, but i managed that. I'm sure ill get over this, i was running very low on sugar today and i never work very well when i havent eaten. Tomorrow i am going for eggs and bacon before work i think, mabe even a run to help clear my heed ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) Cheers for the understanding words guys, really appreciate it, and i promice it will be worth all the heart ache J

i ended up buying a pre built v3 msns for my v8 with a pretty good map for a blown v8 in it allready but i still have to configure my sensors to make it work .if it goes smoothly great but I'm getting the feeling that i should have coughed the extra for the emerald going on what mental torture mega squirt gives a lot of people ![:(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/sad.png)

Stick with it - put a post up on the forum and they'll all jump to help I'm sure ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) Plenty of well-experienced (and tortured) souls on the MS forum. I'm sure it'll come together grand. RE what Froggy says - kind of where I'm going now - I can get a VEMs ECU for a Rover V8 for ~300 quid, fantastic bits of kit and well regarded by the tuners.......I know I may save 100 or so quid with a megasquirt install but I know which I'd prefer.......the one with someone on the end of the phone I can shout at ;D

If you look here, and scroll down a bit to "Easy Therm" it says "Note that you do not need EasyTherm with MS-II, you can calibrate the thermistor tables directly in MegaTune (under 'Tools') without reloading code." and if you go here and look for the big box with "Sensor Calibration", it tells you how to do it... Hope that helps!

Ill give that a try tomorrow

Its certainly interesting, I mean the how does it work starts you with the ideal gas equation PV=nRT.....that could be daunting in itself if your science is a bit rusty! Have to admit, I'm loving it so far, but until I found megasquirt I was contemplating building my own ecu from scratch. MegaTunix is def. nicer than MegaTune, but less supported in terms of user files (its newer..) it also needs GTK+ installed if you want to use it under windoze, but that doesn't worry me, I'm a linuxer ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png)
