Well all I left the UK last June and I thought Id be so happy to come back....until I got here. For me and my fiancée, it was expensive being American citizens living there on American pay and now were thinking of moving back and living on the European/British economy. She spent 12 years there and its home to her....and for me....I miss being able to buy a very well made car for half a 2 weeks paycheck! Bare with me here...in 2 years spent in England I had 7 cars ranging from 3 Mazdas, 2 Mercedes, a BMW and my current Volkswagen. Never spent more than 800 quid on them. Car insurance was amazingly cheap and the same for 12 months as it is here for 2. -_- I miss my collection that I gathered over there and clubs/organizations that I was a part of. Cars here don't have that build quality that last or feel like they have a personality in its looks. Every 16 year olds "dream car" is a Honda. My dream car was a old mini from the 60's....while here think a mini only came around in the early 2000's. Not bombing on America, just tired of shelling out on expenses for little things while maintaining rent and a mediocre job. I'll give up central heat, A/C in cars (already doing that in the VW in sweltering Texas) and 500 channel TV (don't watch it much) just to enjoy fresh air, cars with sunroofs and the culture. I guess watching Top Gear a lot isn't helping either ;D

Indeed I thought about moving to Cali about 5 -6 years ago, Got to talking to a Ex UK guy who had moved there to live with his lady And I was shocked on how hard it was He was in the UK a Eddie Stobart Trucker, pulling £800 a week, Went over there, and all he could find in trucking was a tramping job which meant he had to stop in the truck all week, and got paid $300 for the pleasure. Top that with medical insurance, rent, etc.. Ok food and gas is cheap enough, but from what I gather everything else just cuts you to the bone So I stopped in Blighty !!

Yeah I think the petrol (people look at me weird because I don't say gas anymore) is a little pricy over there to equal about $10 a gallon once the math is done but when a lot of the cars have a great MPG rating, I cant complain. My only gripe would be trying to get a license. -_- Sure as sh*t is expensive!

All of you should move to Australia! Cars are expensive, but the insurance is cheap and so is the petrol (compared to the UK). Just don't try renting a house in Sydney or Melbourne! Come down here to South Australia for cheap housing, cheap old cars (average age of the vehicle fleet is 16 years) and no roadworthy inspections! Not too much rust either.

Anyways...... I never thought about Aussie country because from what I hear around, is that unless you have something to offer the country (i.e. being a doctor, pharmacist, etc), its really hard to move there.

Heard it's getting hard in the USofA, my cousin who isnt exactly short of money has started to downsize over there (although he still has his home in the hamptons lol) which tells me times are hard. All of you should move to Australia! Cars are expensive, but the insurance is cheap and so is the petrol (compared to the UK). Just don't try renting a house in Sydney or Melbourne! I want to move to Perth, only thing that puts me off Oz is the nanny state approach to driving, that and the fact the Mrs wont move... tbh it's mainly that lol. I want a Falcon XR8 & a Holden Ute.... just to annoy the Aussies ;D

The american dream, for most people, is "Work your fingers to the bone in a low paid job with no social provision, in the hope that one day, you might be rich, like almost nobody is". It's not for me either

It is actually arithmetic, not "math"or "maths". 'Math' and 'maths' are abbreviations of the word mathematics, nothing to do with the word arithmetic. Arithmetic is a branch of mathematics.

No gripes about living in the UK myself, as long as I manage to avoid hearing/seeing anything from our 'respected' politicians who only have *our* very needs at heart. It's a brilliant country to live in and I think we moan too much about how good the 'others' have it elsewhere in the world without really knowing the whole picture. Sure, LA looks awesome when you're watching TV, but that's probably no different to a person from the US thinking it's amazing over here in England after watching Life on Mars or one of the Ealing comedies. If I were to want to leave this green, and mostly, pleasant land, I'd look more towards Canada (most likely BC or more specifically Vancouver Island) or New Zealand. I'd love to visit the US on holidays, maybe even a long road trip...but to live? I'll keep my PG Tips and fish & chips thank you very much. When it comes to cars....well, that's a whole different story. And that's what this thread is lacking...
