Was in the libraryWHSmiths today and flicking through the latest Octane magazine(like Evo but for classic cars) I spied this 1965 Peugeot 404 Diesel record-breaker that took 40 diesel speed and endurance records, never seen it before, very bizarre ;D

I've seen that in Peugeot's museum in Sochaux. When you look inside you can see all the ordinary 404 koop doors in there, just welded up and flushed over with filla. Great stuff.

fantastic.
A little short of the GaleBanks and JCB diesel record holders I'll bet.
I always had a sneaky yen to own a 404.

I've seen a 1/43 model of that car but those are the first pics I've seen of the real one. What speed records did it achieve?

I like that, and I love the simple graphics, great lines... It doesn't offend me it's not low either. As for the French bit, mine isn't too clever but as far as I can make out that just says they've established some records with/for petrol and diesel engined cars, and that it's a modified 404 convert.

Fantastic car! Lovely clean lines, like it.
We had 2 404s. A '60s saloon until about 1975, then later a 1978 pickup which we had until 1986 when we replaced it with the Sherpa. I have a feeling we've got a gearbox and a driveshaft/rear axle knocking about still.
If they weren't rarer than hen's teeth this side of la manche I'd have one! Bench seat and column shift-tastic!

Here's another. 202 series d'arl mat in main dealer in Monte Video. The only one of its kind built in 1949, by the famous Parisian Peugeot concessionaire Darl'Mat, based on 202 mechanicals.
