Hello, I'm having some trouble with the weber fitted to my mk2 jetta 1.6. It runs great, nice and responsive until I put my foot down and then it goes flat and stops accelerating. At the point, if i back off slightly it starts to accelerate again. Any ideas what this could be? it seems to be when the second stage of the carb opens. Cheers

Sounds more like ignition timing to me - if it's too far retarded lifting off the throttle slightly will create some manifold vacuum, activating the vac advance.
Blocked main jet in the secondary choke is also possible - that would lean out the mixture, which would make it very flat until you close the secondary.

Cheers for the advice, I checked the jets and cleaned them, definitely not blocked though.
Will look into the timing. If it is retarded, is the easiest way to advance just by rotating the dizzy? Anti-clockwise I think.

Will look into the timing. If it is retarded, is the easiest way to advance just by rotating the dizzy? Anti-clockwise I think. Yep, swinging the dizzy is the correct way to change the timing. You do need to use a timing light though, otherwise you're just making a wild stab in the dark and wil probably make it worse. Also, if it has points (I don't know when VW changed over, but I suspect it's electronic instead) you'll want to at least re-set the gap before doing the timing. If the contacts are at all pitted or burned, it's time for new ones. If it's electronic then none of this applies.

Does it start up okay? I've got had/got this problem with my MK2 Fez. Had my ignition timing checked, carb set up about 4 months ago. Turns out moisture had got into my HT leads, so need to change them again and fingers crossed it will sort the problem out
