So it was nearing my birthday and the van still wasn't ready do I decided to look for a runabout that I could sell on after the van was ready, of course it wasnt any corsa's or saxo's, it was a freshly rebuilt 1981 mini clubman estate or as my friends like to call it, the hearse. It was a 998cc automatic with very low mileage. It was great fun to drive, surprisingly insurance wasnt 2 bad on this one mainly due to its age and the fact it was an automatic ![](http://i586.photobucket.com/albums/ss305/danirose74/480BB626-1AD2-45AD-81CA-B8125363D91A-1267-000000BD82A7BEE3.jpg) ![](http://i586.photobucket.com/albums/ss305/danirose74/128051C8-2AF5-4AA1-B13B-07FF5D650959-1267-000000BD89A08004.jpg) ![](http://i586.photobucket.com/albums/ss305/danirose74/142FEC01-A401-4C7A-A276-119CDDF66A4C-1267-000000BD8F963393.jpg) So I drove this car for around 2 weeks and of course the worst happened, driving down a main road near my house, a woman in a side road who couldn't see what was on the main road due to 2 pickups obscuring her view decided to pull out right in front of me, I did all I could to avoid her but no abs in a mini. The police had to be called due to her knowing the people on the street who tried to push her car back into the side road and say that I launched my car at hers in the side road, ever heard such rubbish? So her saxo was a write off and mine certainly didn't fair 2 well either but there wasn't a chance in hell I was letting it get written off, so there it sat for about a year, ill get to that later ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) here's some pictures ![](http://i586.photobucket.com/albums/ss305/danirose74/F36BB701-7F40-4F1A-9E6D-AEA721B4095F-1267-000000BD941E5F1C.jpg) ![](http://i586.photobucket.com/albums/ss305/danirose74/9D8631CA-07D4-493C-9F6A-0AE273B01523-1267-000000BD989398AA.jpg) ![](http://i586.photobucket.com/albums/ss305/danirose74/A0D86BFD-F70D-4B06-B7F8-F967DF23B928-1267-000000BD9D20FD05.jpg) Enough to make you sick really as it was a great car, Not good ![:(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/sad.png) , but its alive again now tell you a bit later ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

The clubman was swapped with the gentleman who built this beast retrorides.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=readersrides&action=display&thread=98386&page=5 but ill tell you what I got later, Lewis managed to not only fix the clubman, but he managed to do it without replacing a single panel, he managed to straighten it all out and repaint the car it's origional poop brown before selling it on ![:(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/sad.png) ![](http://i586.photobucket.com/albums/ss305/danirose74/76D77200-D84D-450E-8A51-FEF29E21FF4C-1267-000000CFB61B1E5E.jpg) The finished product, good right? So the dreaded time between the crash and the van being ready was horrible, as I had only been driving the clubman 2 weeks before the accident, I had the hire car (dare I say it on here) a Toyota Prius longer than I owned my clubman in a driveable state, so 5 weeks of Prius driving and the time had come. Into the minivan I went

Very interested! A lot of the time people read but don't make a comment which can make you wonder what's going on. Very envious of your access to a tooled-up garage. Keep up the good works.

So the first day was great, it ran and sounded amazing, anyway the next day I was at my grandma's for dinner and decided that was the perfect time to my mum out in it. So she decided to treat me to a tank of petrol, which resulted in this ![](http://i586.photobucket.com/albums/ss305/danirose74/Facebook/Mini%20van%20file%202/61592_1623283509997_7042973_n.jpg) No it hasn't broken down but it did empty a good amount of petrol on the floor due to a crack in the filler neck of the tank, I hadn't noticed earlier due to only ever needing a fiver in it. But this was soon rectified by nicking the tank of the clubby estate that was smashed up in the garage. Soon fixed, as you can see my dads not small so it's quite awkward for him to work on.

Nice looking Minivan and good to have the background story. It is also great that "the younger generation" are picking up the car bug! We often read that the youngsters are only good for pressing buttons on the playstation! But you and others are the future of our hobby/obsession.....Keep at it and keep posting.

so after a while due to the stiffness of my front suspension it started to cause havoc to the front end inner wing where the strut mounts and also to the front left wing, so this needed addressing, I had new mounts welded in and all strengthened and also fibreglassed the wing to keep it from getting anyworse, not the nicest repair I know but its all getting sorted when I rebuild the car properly. at the same time the mk1 grill moustache went passed the point of polishing and the rust came through, trust me I tried to save it. so for a bit of fun I decided to stickerbomb it, not to everybodies taste I know but I liked it alot, and its only staying until I replace it, I'm thinking an innocetti moustache. ![](http://i586.photobucket.com/albums/ss305/danirose74/5DDF53D4-3F94-49B7-AD50-90F042C97A85-1267-000001001B1CA7F7.jpg) This was at its first show and first show of the year for the mini scene bingley hall in Stafford and it got an amazing amount of attention in the car park ![](http://i586.photobucket.com/albums/ss305/danirose74/499C813E-F3B7-4AF2-85A6-308C71FFF670-1267-000000FFDD31C20D.jpg) As you can see in this picture, lots of people, and they had all just been stood round my van, couldn't believe it so small changes have taken place on the van since owning but most of the chances were to keep it roadworthy, as far as aesthetics i have slowly been collecting all the different parts i want for when the car is rebuilt

So I bought some new seats that I'm going to get recovered, the reason I've bought second hand is there alot cheaper and I want to beable to modify the seats(details are secret till there finished though) here's a picture of the seats ill be using though, oh and treated myself to an awesome handbrake that I decided to fit ![](http://i586.photobucket.com/albums/ss305/danirose74/Facebook/My%20Mini%20Van/31054_1460764447122_4334119_n.jpg) Not bad at all for a £30 purchase without frames, I then bought a second set of seats with frames, nabbed the frames and sold the seats on so the seats them only owed me £20 with frames, that's a win in my book ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) The handbrake I have in the van, it's great until you pinch your skin inbetween the trigger

My Mum hated my Beetle, mainly because the passenger door wouldn't shut. My mum loves classic minis and she always wanted one, she just didnt like a few things about the van 1) it was a van so she didnt understand why i liked it, 2) the ride is really sporty as it was used for hill climbing in earlier life 3) it really is loud like a v8. so had a little play on mini selecta ![](http://i586.photobucket.com/albums/ss305/danirose74/MiniSelectaorigional.jpg) pretty spot on if you ask me ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)
