I'm trying to find out what way would be easiest to get rid of the rust. I have a few rust bubbles, which means wire brush, rust fighting agent, filler (?), primer, paint. I don't have access to a compressor to paint it properly, but what kind of finish can I get with aerosols? Heres pics of what I need to tackle: Adam

You can get a perfect finish really with aerosols, but same as all painting preparation is the key. Main difficulty is getting a colour match which depends on how weathered your paint is. You can get colour matched aerosols made up as well which are a bonus. but as its your first time normal ones should suffice. To repair the window blebs the the best way is removing the glass and seals and welding a new piece in. If you grind away fill and paint it it will need doing again in a year and a half or so, but it depends how long you want teh car for.

Really I want to do it as properly as I can, but I don't want it to turn into another project. How long do you recon taking out the windows, cutting out the bits, making new bits, welding them in, grinding them down, filling them and painting them take? 1 man working 8 hour days?

For whats there you should be able to do it in a day no problem (even allowing teh time for the paint to dry) But I recommend you get some assistance in removing the windows. Not bad to do when you have done it before but its a mare when its your first time.

Young Adam ...watch you don't set light to the interior trim !!.Scabby areas in those positions always seem the worst to repair and are a pain in the A**se. You may get away with round the window ,by lifting up the rubber and seeing how far its gone ,B4 ripping it all out !

All seats etc will come out and i'll cover everything else before getting started! I'm sure my dad will give me a hand with the screens. Won't be doing anything paint related until the weather gets a bit better though

Please don't go buying aerosols from the likes of Halfords etc. You might as well spit the paint at the panel! Take a trip to your local automotive paint factors and get a tin mixed up. I recommend the 'Holts' cans, if its a good place they should do them. Thay have proper tips on the can and spray just like a compressor, unlike the Halfords jobbies which have the same tip you'd find on a tin of deodorant (you laugh, but have a look)
There about £9 a tin, so its a few quid more, but you'll see the difference!

If that's Automotive Paint Supplies in Newbury, they're very good indeed. Only place I know where the bloke can identify the make and model of car from just seeing the fuel filler door (best way to get it perfectly-matched is to take a (small) part of the car in with you).

ditto what everyone else said really. Its almost all in the prep. Use decent aerosols to make your life easier, but even with the Halfords ones you can get a decent finish.

It is indeed! The guy there seems quite helpful and quite interested in what you're doing with it. Adam
