I was in France/Belgium for a couple of days last week, which meant a few 'spots' were inevitable... Not retro, but you've got to love these little things. I'm not exactly sure what it was though...Axiam? Ligier? Rekord in Dunkirk...there was another almost identical on the other side of town too. In a showroom in Poperinge (Belgium) were these two stunners...Merc SL and Mk1 Golf. Same place again, this Jetta was lurking out back.

Just down the road were these two...what a combo - one with awesome wheels and another with chrome plastic spinning pimp 'caps! Yeah baby! In for repair (hopefully) was this apparently (pre-crash) clean MkII Esky. I do like those F O R D grilles. This was out the front of a Renault dealer in Ypres...I assume the writing is proclaiming the old 'trade in any car for £1500' line...or it's Euro equivalent. Do people really think that such discounts aren't accounted for in the cost of their 'bargain' new car? ;D Nice van anyway....although I think we're supposed to think it's just 'old rubbish'. Just another old Mini towing a gigantic washing machine.

This would be a rare enough site in England I'd imagine, so a winter spotting of this Rover (P3?) in Belgium has to be worth a SPOT!* call. Am I right in thinking that the black 'plates on this Calais-based Renault 18 are an indication of it's vintage? A lifted 504? You don't see that every day...unless you live in Calais, obviously. I know it's wrong, but if this were mine I'd be painting it blue with a set of wide 13s on it...in gold. That'd freak out your average 'normal' Scooby driver! *SPOT!: like shouting TUNE! when the DJ drops a big song....SPOT! can be used as a term of recognition when a good spot has arisen.

Those Axioms are incredible - three-cyl diesel auto, plastic bodies and drivable on a motorbike licence (something to do with capacity/top speed I think!). A place here used to import them and they became quite common until the place's predeliction with BMW's and Mercs and trying to sell them for a tad over book killed them off.....

The Mk1 Golf is the same colour as mine, can't believe it - I've never seen another! As far as I know the colour, Ancona Blue was only available on Golf/Scirocco for '74 - '75 so that would make it a very early swallowtail model, the smooth bonnet would also tally with this. Is it for sale?

I can't remember the name of the garage in Poperinge...the Golf didn't appear to be for sale though, just stored in the window.

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts
