Shame its broke mate, but bunging another gearbox in (or maybe it just needs a selector?) could be an option? I drove around for 2 years with no 2nd gear in my Escy, killed the clutch/engine but it lasted until I could be ar$ed to fit the new engine/box!

Where abouts in the country are you? I'll probably be in the position to give you a few quid for it when you want rid.

well ive just been offered some help in getting her looked at, so i might well go that route! the thing is the car is a freebie, and has loadsa stuff wrong with it (the most worrying being the need for a new fuel tank, as if u fill it more than half it will leak!) the shocks are long gone, etc etc! don't really wanna be throwing money at her, which is a shame as she's done me well!

Well if you do, let me know 3rd gear isn't too bad, you can make it home at 50mph / 6000rpm ;D

Hmmm, glad it's fixed itself! Sounds like it might be the synchromesh? You could line up a replacement gearbox just in case - they can't be all that much money from the scrappy. VW-tax hasn't encompassed these yet, has it? Either that or double de-clutch every time you wanna shift into 4th ;D

Sounds like synchro to me. I had the same on my 1st eva car, pug 205 which lost 2nd. Soon learnt how to double de clutch- problem solved!

My dad has already lined up someone who's interested in her for one of those rallys for charity, who has a 5 speed box at the ready, so think she's gonna be on her way to him at the end of march! The art of double de clutching is fine at the moment
